Coyotes on the Prowl? Tell Us Where You’ve Seen Them

Coyotes have been seen on Hilliard and Crocker boulevards.

Our story posted on Tuesday about a Westlake woman’s dog that was attacked by coyotes on two separate occasions drew plenty of attention.

Our media partner at NewsNet5 interviewed Patricia Wilde, who owns Johnny Boy, a small Jack Russell terrier who was attacked twice in the past three months.

Westlake Police Captain Guy Turner told Channel 5 a pack of coyotes lives near the water treatment plant on Clague Road.

"Just create your yard as an environment that's not inviting to them," he said. "Keep your lids on the garbage can. Don't scatter food on the ground for the birds. If you're going to feed the birds, get a bird feeder."

Turner said pet owners should also keep their shrubs trimmed and go outside with their pets.

Wilde lives on Hilliard, but said she previously saw coyotes on Crocker Road near St. John Westshore Hospital.
