HAZMAT Called After Body Found in Car off Westlake's Bradley Road

Westlake Police found a body in a car this morning. 

Police received a call at 10:24 a.m. this morning that a body was in a car on an undeveloped street off Bradley Road in Westlake.

News sources are reporting the man died of a "chemical suicide."

Investigating officers found indicators of a possible hazardous materials incident and called in Westlake Fire Department and the Westshore Hazmat team. The Westshore Enforcement Bureau’s Hazardous Devices Team is also on the scene.

Patch's news partners at NewsNet5 said the body was located in a black car in a newly cleared allotment for a subdivision and that they were told there was a note on the vehicle that read “ When you find my body, you better call HAZMAT.”

Police arrived at the scene and located the body and a heavy chemical odor.

Officers said they believe that the man created a toxic chemical to kill himself and wrote the note to warn whoever found the body of the dangerous chemical inside.

Lincoln is blocked off at Bradley.

The location is isolated and no evacuation of persons is contemplated at this time.   

Police are not releasing any information on the identification of the person. 

Under Ohio law, the Fire Dept. is in charge of the incident. When the Fire Chief releases the scene to WPD, a sudden death investigation will be conducted. The body will be turned over to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, who will determine the manner and cause of death.
