Four Charged After Underage Drinking Party On Saddlebrook Lane

A neighbor called Westlake Police after they saw one of the revelers urinating off a balcony

A group of teenagers racked up the party fouls after Westlake Police busted their underage drinking party on Feb. 23. One of the host's neighbors on Saddlebrook Lane called police when they saw a reveler urinating from the balcony, Westlake Police said. When police arrived to the apartment in question, the partiers drew the blinds, turned off the lights and refused to answer the door. However, authorities contacted the apartment owner -- who was out of town -- and she, in turn, called her 17-year-old son and ordered him to answer the door, police said. The host was turned over to an adult family friend. He will face charges of underage consumption and keg law violation. Three of his guests -- all of who are 18 or younger and from Westlake…

Crocker Park Drug Deal Turns Into Armed Robbery

Four people are accused of using a BB gun to hold up a man Monday evening in Westlake

Westlake police arrested four men who are accused of robbing a man Monday evening during a drug deal gone awry in Crocker Park. At 9 p.m., a North Ridgeville man reported that he had been robbed an hour earlier in a public parking garage on Vine Street. The parking garage is next to Dick's Sporting Goods.  Further investigation revealed that he had met an acquaintance there to buy marijuana, Westlake Police Capt. Guy Turner said. That acquaintance -- 19-year-old Joseph Polomsky of Westlake -- pulled out a handgun and robbed him of cash, Turner said. Polomsky was accompanied by a 17-year-old boy, as well as 20-year-old Darren Viets and 19-year-old Zachary Trigalet -- all of whom are from Westlake, police said. All of the suspects were …

Adults Accused Of Abandoning Toddler In Favor Of The Bar

Both the child's mother and grandparents may face child endangering charges

A couple staying at a hotel on Sperry Drive heard a child crying in the next room short after midnight on Feb. 16. When they investigated, they found an unattended 2-year-old girl and notified hotel staff. The couple then tried to find the child’s guardians. After at least 10 minutes, they found the girl's mother and grandparents -- all of whom were intoxicated, according to Westlake Police. The mother, who is from South Carolina, claimed that she had been gone for only a few minutes but other evidence indicated that the mother and grandparents had been in the hotel bar since 10 p.m., police said. No charges have been filed against the mother or grandparents at this time. The Westlake city prosecutor will decide if they should face charges…

Two Westlake Residents Are Victims Of Separate Identity Theft Scams

One woman's social security number and identity was being fraudulently used for years, according to police

Two Westlake residents were the victims of separate identity theft scams, according to Westlake Police. One has been occurring for years; the other involved racking up a substantial amount of debt in a short amount of time. In the former incident, a woman who lives on Stonegate Court received a call from a Bolingbrook, IL detective on Feb. 13 concerning the misuse of her social security number. Bolingbrook Police had arrested a man who had been using her and others' social security numbers for employment purposes for several years. The accused identity thief faces charges in Illinois and is also in the USA illegally, police said. The Westlake woman made a report with Westlake Police at the request of Bolingbrook detective. Man Receives Threatening Calls From Overseas

The Lakewood man, who works in Westlake, said the callers threatened to ruin his credit and make him lose his job

A man who lives in Lakewood but works in Westlake received harassing phone calls on his cell phone and business phone on Monday (Feb. 11). The calls came from overseas and they demand a $300 payment. The callers threatened that if they were not paid, they would have the man arrested, make him lose his job and ruin his credit. The callers knew the victim's social security number and his former address. Westlake Police advised the victim to contact the Federal Trade Commission and the three major credit bureaus for assistance with identity theft threats. The victim said the the caller had a heavy South Asian or Indian accent. Another man in Westlake reported receiving threatening calls from a man with a similar accent recently. In that …

Westlake Man Receives Calls From People Threatening To Crash His Computer

The man's computer did crash soon thereafter

A man who lives on Brick Mill Run reported that he received five to six threatening phone calls on Wednesday (Feb. 6.) The man told Westlake police that the callers sounded like men with South Asian or Indian accents. They demanded money and said they would crash his computer if he did not pay. The victim told police that he thinks the calls came from a support company he used to fix a computer problem. His computer did crash and he is unable to get satisfaction from the maker or the software provider. Westlake Couple Falls Victim To Craigslist Scam

After wiring money for a Key West vacation, the Craigslist ad disappeared

A couple who live on Carriage Park Oval couple are concerned that they have fallen victim to a Craigslist scam. They wired $659 deposit to a bank in Missouri in response to a Craigslist ad for a Key West vacation rental on Jan. 31. On Feb. 6, they reported to Westlake police that the ad had disappeared from the site and the advertiser would not respond to the their emails. Also in this week's blotter: She was refusing to return his car keys, according to Westlake Police. When officers responded, they also found that she had an active warrant from Parma Police Department and arrested her. Tax Return Filed with Westlake Man’s Name, Texas Address

That’s not the right address A Westlake man received a letter from the IRS on Jan. 4, asking if he had moved to Texas. He hadn’t. It turns out that someone had filed a 2012 tax return using his name and a Dallas address. After a follow-up call with the IRS, he was asked to make a police report. He filed one on Jan. 23. Missing money An Ashbourne Drive woman realized that her purse and more than $2,000 worth of cash and gift cards had been taken on Jan. 24. She thinks the theft happened earlier that month, and thought it might be someone she hires to clean the house, according to information from the police. Suspects Arrested in Recent Thefts from Cars at Local Gyms

Earlier this week, police arrested a man and a woman who are suspected of breaking into cars at local gyms. A citizen reported that there were two people looking inside cars at Bally Total Fitness at about 7 p.m. on Jan. 26.  Not long after, two cars were reportedly broken into at Inner Bliss yoga studio. The officers involved in both cases came to the decision that the incidents were probably related.  According to information from the police, a 25-year old Lakewood woman had been arrested on a warrant from Fairview Park and cited for driving under suspension after the first incident. At the time, the 30-year-old Cleveland man with her was identified and released. He was later arrested on warrants from Rocky River Municipal Court, Capt. …

Woman Tells Police to Arrest Her

Two people caused quite a commotion at a Detroit Road drug store a little before 10 p.m. on Jan. 26. Police found a 49-year-old Westlake man yelling at the back of the store and arrested him for disorderly conduct-intoxication. A 27-year-old Cleveland woman also got a bit out of hand. According to information from the police, she was acting “belligerent” and told officers to “just arrest” her. They obliged. She was also charged with disorderly conduct-intoxication and an unrelated traffic warrant. Everybody makes mistakes ... even us!
