Teacher Feature: Westlake Pre-K Teacher Wins Outstanding Educator Award

Kim McCue, an intervention specialist teaching special ed pre-K students, was one of 14 to earn this distinguished regional award.

Kim McCue is outstanding.  At least, that’s the consensus among her peers at the local, regional and state level.  McCue, who works as a preschool intervention specialist at Hilliard Elementary School, was one of 14 educators recognized by the Education Services Center of Cuyahoga County and the State Support Team for Region III for her standout contributions in teaching students with disabilities.  Earlier this year, she was nominated by her colleagues and was then “pleasantly surprised and honored” to be one of a handful of teachers who earned the outstanding educator distinction.  “I love what I do, and it’s been my goal to make the kids love school as well,” she said. “I have wonderful little students, and it’s always exciting to watch…

This is well deserved, Miss Kim is a perfect example of the pre school teachers at Hilliard, their love and compassion when it comes to children with disabilities is par none. She is a prime example of why the teachers in the Westlake School District are among the best in the state. Teacher Feature: Hilliard Elementary School Principal Mary Flanagan Set to Retire After 41-year Career

Flanagan cites collaboration, teamwork and vision as the keys to sustaining her successful career.

After devoting 41 memorable years to the education of young students, Hilliard Elementary School Principal Mary Flanagan has decided it’s time to say goodbye to a career that has already left an indelible mark on the district.  The process in choosing her predecessor has just begun, and whomever is chosen will have some big shoes to fill.  Flanagan recently won a local and regional PTA Outstanding Educator award for her longstanding service to the Westlake City Schools, and her 24-year tenure at Hilliard Elementary exceeds any of her past or present administrative colleagues.  It has been no easy task, particularly adjusting to the advent of the information age and the inclusion of 21st-century tools like interactive smart boards, laptops …
