Kearney Sentence, Home Break-In Lead Week's News

Here's the top news in Westlake this past week

Two Avon Lake residents, reportedly heroin addicts, and their accomplices are under arrest after a home on Glenbrook Court was broken into. Jewelry and prescription drugs were stolen. Chelsea Alurovic and Stephen Zywotek, both 25 and from Avon Lake, also confessed to other home burglaries around Westlake. Westlake resident Jennifer Kearney, 29, was sentenced to three years in prison for killing motorcyclist Kenneth Stith in a drunk-driving crash in 2011 where she was driving the wrong way on I-90 in Cleveland. Crocker Park is getting a unique new resident. Fox 8 is going to be setting up a studio in the Westlake shopping/dining/entertainment center to cover west side news. Fox 8 Setting Up Shop in Crocker Park

TV station will have studio in Westlake shopping/dining/entertainment complex

There's all sorts of businesses at Crocker Park. You can buy clothes, see a movie, eat at a variety of restaurants. Now, a new sort of business is coming there. A TV station. Fox 8 Cleveland announced that it is setting up a studio at Crocker Park. The studio will be used to make coverage of west side news easier, said Fox 8 General Manager Greg Easterly in the announcement. “When we have a crew that is covering a story way out west that they can cut down on their drive time and spend more time on the story itself is just a big convenience for us,” said Easterly. Crocker Park director of communications Lisa Schwan said Monday that the location for the studio in Crocker Park had not been confirmed, but should be soon.

Kelsey Dover Gets On-Camera for a Cause

A Westlake girl is getting quite a head start on what may be a future career. Kelsey Dover is one of 42 children in Northeast Ohio competing to win the UH Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital's Mini-Reporter Challenge. She talks about car safety and the new texting while driving ban in her report. Click here to vote for Kelsey (she's Reporter 06, the ninth video). Kelsey is a student at Parkside Intermediate School and plays soccer for the Westake A team Green Machine. She often volunteers to help teachers during recess. Video: 'The X-Factor' Comes to Crocker Park

Hopefuls gave us a sampling of their auditions while they waited in line, some since 5 a.m.

The line was long on Sunday to audition for Fox's new reality talent show "The X-Factor," but that didn't stop hopefuls from coming out and giving it their best. Even after countless hours of waiting at Crocker Park, spirits were high as people stood in line for their chance at fame. The new show, produced by Simon Cowell of "American Idol" fame, came to Westlake at 11 a.m. to host auditions. Four grand prize winners, both individuals and groups, will get a spot on the "Fox 8 News In the Morning" show and passes to cut the line at auditions in Chicago April 27.

'The X-Factor' Hopefuls Wait Hours in Line for a Chance to Audition

Simon Cowell's new reality show hit Crocker Park Sunday, drawing hundreds of budding stars.

Clapping, singing and screams of excitement filled the air at Crocker Park on Sunday as hundreds and hundreds of hopefuls lined up for their chance to audition for "The X-Factor." Fox's new reality talent show, produced by Simon Cowell of "American Idol" fame, came to Westlake at 11 a.m. to host auditions. Four grand prize winners, both individuals and groups, will get a spot on the "Fox 8 News In the Morning" show and passes to cut the line at auditions in Chicago April 27. People stood, or sat, for over four hours in line, bringing folding chairs, provisions and guitars. Despite the long wait, the atmosphere was cheerful. I guess it's okay to not pay attention to the article on Crocker Park page and other media write-ups that state "no camping out, or early line forming is allowed". I wish I had gone up at daybreak on Sunday. I got there @ 11:30 am and was told around 2:30- 3:00-ish by a group strolling around the crowd with a megaphone "Contest is over with".
