'Black Tie' Concludes Clague Playhouse's 85th Season

The father of the groom faces a few choices in this A.R. Gurney play.

Clague Playhouse’s current show, Black Tie, features a not-everyday dilemma: Should the father of the groom where a tuxedo to the wedding? And just as unimportantly, if the “rehearsal dinner” should be called the “bridal dinner.” The show will conclude the Playhouse’s 85th year. Written by A. R. Gurney and directed by Douglas A. Farren, Black Tie, running now through May 26, features Peter Toomey, Donna Case, Bobby Coyne, Debbie Lenarz and Lou Will. When a Buffalo-born ad exec finds himself with his wife at a rundown Adirondacks resort hotel dressing the night before his son's wedding he must decide whether do don his tux for the occasion. Gurney’s play includes the ghost of the tux’s previous owner, “dad,” and viewers will hear a tapestry…

Come 'See Rock City' At Clague Playhouse

The sequel to 'Last Train to Nibroc' keeps the humor and charm, and adds new characters.

Newlyweds Raleigh and May are back at Clague Playhouse to start their new life in the familiar town of Corbin, Kentucky in See Rock City. The sequel to last year's popular production of Last Train to Nibroc picks up about a year later, when school principal May and aspiring writer Raleigh return from their honeymoon in Rock City in the midst of World War II. "The author’s writing is very consistent and very funny and it’s been fun to see where she has taken the characters," said Director Rob Gibb, who also directed Last Train to Nibroc. "But the show stand on its own as well. She’s woven in just enough background information, so if you didn’t see the first one, there’s no reason not to see this one because you’ll totally understand what’s …

Mystery, Drama and Laughs Await Audiences at 'A Christmas Cactus'

The new Clague Playhouse production will premiere Friday at 8 p.m.

Douglas Farren wanted to try a little something different this holiday season at Clague Playhouse. The director wanted mystery, intrigue, a hint of drama and lots of laughs, and he may have found just that in Eliot Byerrum’s “A Christmas Cactus.”  The spoof play features a slew of slow-witted characters, off-the-wall plot twists and promises plenty of well-timed jokes.  “It’s great fun,” Farren said. “The group solves a mystery despite misunderstanding each other almost entirely.”  The story is set in the office of a fledgling private eye named Cactus O’Riley, played by Nicole Daniel. As she and her assistant, Fred, are about to close up for Christmas, two escaped convicts burst through the door.  One is an illegal immigrant who can’t find…
