A man tried to convince police that he got a really good deal on a car and instead ended up with a receiving stolen property charge. Police recovered a 2005 Cadillac CTS that had been reported stolen from Virginia at about 11:15 a.m. on Jan. 15. When police talked to the driver, a 49-year-old homeless man, he said he had paid $40 for it. He is now facing a receiving stolen property-motor vehicle charge. He was also wanted by New York parole authorities. Everybody makes mistakes ... even us! The man didn’t take this news well, and punched a window on a door as he was being shown out. He then ran across the street into an apartment complex. He fought with the arresting officers, and refused to give his booking information once in jail. He was charged with disorderly conduct intoxication, resisting arrest and criminal damaging. Gotta go — Solon Police arrested a 62-year-old Garfield Heights man on Nov. 17 on U.S. 422, but not for his activity behind the wheel. The sight of Samuel L. Holcombe urinating on the side of the highway led to his drunken-driving arrest. According to the police report, an officer saw Holcombe get out of his truck and stagger to the side of the road to relieve himself. He was soon arrested and taken to Solon Jail. His .221 breathalyzer result was nearly three times over the legal limit. Sharp shoplifting — A sharp…

The power could be out all weekend, according to FirstEnergy. And despite complaints about loud generators, police say they're permitted until the power is back.

Here are this week's most bizarre police calls, reports and charges. All information was provided by police reports from departments in Patch communities. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. No game for drug-dealing referee — If a Chardon man planned to sell marijuana after his gig as a referee at an area high school football game, he probably shouldn't have stopped to chat with officers. Roger Ward, 22, was scheduled to work Westlake's homecoming game against Olmsted Falls last week. Before kickoff, he pulled into the Westlake Police station to ask where he should park. Instead of advice, he got arrested. Police noticed the smell coming from his car and soon found marijuana in jars and plastic …

The following arrest information was provided by the Westlake Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
If you've ever used a GPS navigator in your car, there may have been a time where it gave you imperfect directions. A 26-year-old Broadview Heights woman tried to blame driving the wrong way on I-90 on her GPS. It didn't work. Jacqueline Kovach was stopped by Westlake Police at 2:34 a.m. on Aug. 26 near the Columbia Road overpass, driving west in the eastbound lanes. She told police she knew it was the wrong way, but drove anyway because the GPS told her to. Kovach was found to have a blood-alcohol level of .111 and was arrested for drunk driving, open container (a can of beer), no seatbelt and willful and wanton disregard for safety. Kovach reportedly then complained that police should be arresting drunks who are worse than her.

His blood-alcohol content level was .144 at that point. His license was automatically suspended. He was released to his girlfriend. Officers found him again at 5:24 a.m. on Hilliard Boulevard.
