Thefts of Credit Cards, Jewelry, Gas Around Town

The following arrest information was provided by the Westlake Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

An alert husband caught some credit card trouble. His wife's wallet was taken from her purse sometime between 1 and 5 p.m. on Sept. 21 while she was at her office on Clague Road. Her husband got in touch with her to ask about charges made on their credit card at gas stations in Lakewood and Eastlake. That's when she discovered the missing wallet. The credit card was cancelled and Westlake Police are investigating. About $3,500 worth of jewelry was stolen from a Washington Way home sometime between Sept. 5 and Sept. 21. The owner told Westlake Police that they suspect a home health care worker. The investigation is continuing. Thieves Steal From Home, Unlocked Cars

The following arrest information was provided by the Westlake Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Thieves got into two unlocked cars and made off with a nice haul. A Westford Circle woman reported that $100 in cash, a gift card, and a small can of pepper spray were taken from her unlocked 2010 Ford Fusion the night of August 21. The same night, $50 in cash, a $40 purse, and a $200 GPS were taken from a 2008 Nissan Rogue at a Trotters Ridge residence. Two rings worth at least $2,200 were taken from a Wakefied Lane woman's home sometime between July 27 and August 20. The woman told Westlake Police on August 23 that she suspected home cleaners may have done it. The investigation is continuing.

Jewelry Stolen in Home Break-In

The following arrest information was provided by the Westlake Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Jewelry was stolen when a Hamlet Lane home was broken into on August 8. Westlake Police reported that the front door was forced open sometime between 8:15 a.m. and 4:51 p.m. that day. A neighbor told police that they had heard a "loud knocking" in the area around 11:30 a.m. The resident told police $600 necklace was stolen. The investigation is continuing.

Variety of Thefts Happen Around Westlake

The following arrest information was provided by the Westlake Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Someone tried to do some big-time theft from a Pebblebeach Oval couple's bank account recently. The couple discoverd that $6,000 had been withdrawn from their account when a bogus check was cashed in Marietta, Georgia, on June 29. Two attempted withdrawls by wire -- one for $10,000 and one for $20,000 -- were denied before the bank closed the account. The couple were reimbursed for the bad check. Someone stole a Kentucky woman's engagement ring from her room at a Sperry Drive hotel sometime between 10 p.m. on July 22 and 4 p.m. on July 23. The ring was valued at $1,100. Westlake police have no suspects yet. A North Ridgeville woman’s 2010 black Explorer was broken into while she was at St. John Medical Center on July 19. Returning Stolen Clothes to Store Nabs Suspect

Stolen clothes helped lead to an arrest. A Toyota Sienna parked in a garage on Vine Street was broken into the evening of April 28. The front passenger window was smashed, and a checkbook and $700 in clothing were taken. The next day, a man was arrested by Sheffield Village police after he tried to return some of the stolen clothing to the store where it had been bought. Also on April 28, a laptop, iPod and keys were stolen after a Ford Taurus was broken into in a Union Street garage.

Police Blotter: Internet Meetup Goes Wrong, Man Fights Arrest

Man's Internet Relationship Goes Bad Police had to break up an argument between a Crossings Parkway man and a 23-year-old Minnesota woman he met online at about 3 a.m. Jan. 22. The woman had come to meet the man in Westlake, and the two had gotten into an argument. The man called police to help quiet the woman down. She agreed to stay away from the man and sleep on the couch. At about 4 a.m. the same morning, the man called police because the woman was bothering him again. Police arrested her for disorderly conduct intoxicated. Police Blotter: Man Demands Girl's Stockings in Parking Garage

Man Demands Girl’s Stockings To Fix Car A man approached a 16-year-old Avon Lake girl and demanded she give him her stockings at about 7:30 p.m. Jan. 6 in the Union Street garage at Crocker Park. The man reportedly told the girl that he needed them to fix his car’s exhaust system. The girl gave up the stockings, and the man ran off. She described the man as a white man in his 20s, wearing a baseball cap, jeans and a dark coat. She also told officers the man has brown eyebrows with a long, thin nose and face. Responding police officers searched the area, but didn’t find the man. Crocker Park security is checking surveillance footage to see if they can spot the suspect. Police Looking For Theft Suspect

Westlake police are on the lookout for a woman suspected of stealing a purse and coat from a car parked at Bally Total Fitness on Columbia Road. A 31-year-old Elyria woman had left her car keys in an unlocked locker at the gym while she was working out on Dec. 27. The keys were taken, and used to unlock her car. One of the woman's credit cards was used at the North Olmsted Walmart later that day, said Westlake Police Cpt. Guy Turner in a release. Security cameras caught the woman charging about $416 to the card at the store. The suspect is a heavy-set black woman with short hair, seen wearing the victim's coat in the security footage, Turner said. The victim is also missing $200 in cash and some personal papers. Police Blotter: Man Ignores Officer's Advice To Not Drive

Man Ignores Officer's Warning, Decides to Drive A 65-year-old North Olmsted man ignored warnings from an off-duty police officer on his way out of Dave & Buster's Dec. 10, and got pinched for drunken driving. The man had asked restaurant staff for help in finding his coat, which was found on the back of his chair. A Westlake police officer working security warned the man that he should not drive home that night. The man replied that he had been arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated four years ago, and agreed that he probably couldn't pass a breath test. Police Blotter: Boss Hides Crew Member From Police, Stolen Computers

Boss Tries To Hide Crew Member From Police A Monroe Trail resident was surprised to see a man raising a ladder to her roof at about 3:45 p.m. Nov. 25. The man was gone when police arrived at the home. They found out that the man was part of a gutter cleaning crew, and had gone to the wrong house. The man's boss, a 62-year-old Sheffield Village man, had driven his employee to a nearby fast food restaurant to hide him from investigating officers. The boss claimed he didn't know the employee's full name when asked by police. Officers arrested him for obstructing justice.
