There are no overall ratings yet, but Westlake residents can see how the district did on some of the important indicators such as graduation rate and adequate yearly progress.
Traditional state report cards for local school districts have been delayed, but the Ohio Department of Education today released some preliminary data to give the public an idea of how their local school district performed last year. The information does not include an overall rating, such as “excellent” or “effective,” that the public is used to seeing. The state is investigating whether some districts manipulated attendance data and is holding off on releasing final report cards until that investigation is complete. A 2011 study from the Program on Education Policy and Governance at Harvard University found that students in Florida experienced a significant drop in math and reading achievement when they entered middle school. The study’s authors address the study in an article for EducationNext. The database above includes all public middle schools for the Patch communities in Ohio. Why is KSD only meeting an "Effective" rating on the 2010 - 2011 district report card? http://www.ode.state.oh.us/reportcardfiles/2010-2011/DIST/044164.pdf I know there are a lot of factors sitting behind performance on standardized tests, but this report card doesn't exactly paint a pretty picture. How are the math and science scores so low in 7th and 8th grades? *Disclaimer, I'm a father of a …   more ›
