North Coast Challenge a Day for Family, Community

Race raises money for local charities and organizations

Saturday's North Coast Challenge brought out everyone from hard-core racers to walkers to children for the annual event that supports Westlake charities and organizations. More than 430 runners ran the 5-mile race that started near St. John Medical Center's entrance on Center Ridge Road. Ages ranged from 10 to 84. Were you at the race? Share your photos here! Click the "Upload photos and videos" button to get started. Mourad Marofit was the overall winner in 23 minutes, 22.5 seconds. Jessica Kuhr was the top woman finisher in 26:30.67. Westlake mayor Dennis Clough was the first finisher in the 2-mile walk. "I don't train for this," he said. "I just do the elliptical five times a week." The race was also a family experience. North Coast Challege Brings Fun, Road Closures

Local organizations benefit from annual race

A Westlake tradition continues Saturday with the 22nd annual North Coast Challenge. The 5-mile run and 2-mile walk begin at 8:30 a.m. on Center Ridge Road. The University Hospitals Kids' Fun Run will be at 9:45 a.m. St. John Medical Center is the home base for the event, which also includes a health expo, refreshments, entertainment, children's activities and prizes.
