Rocky River Wine Bar Pairs Quiet Drinks With Good Food

A little off the beaten path, Rocky River Wine Bar is perfect for happy hour, or any hour.

Rocky River Wine Bar, tucked away at 1313 Linda Street, offers a great selection of wines as well as some exceptional dishes to dine on. It's perfect place to visit with a friend, enjoy a drink and grab a bite. We started by pursuing the wine menu. There as was a nice selection of wines by the glass and bottle. However, I was most excited about the list of wines from the Enomatic system that keeps wines fresh, allowing for smaller pours— especially perfect for someone indecisive, or just wanting a small portion. I had a taste of an Argentinian white that I quite enjoyed, but was thrilled to have a small bit. We started with soup and salad. I had the soup of the day, tomato bisque, while my friend enjoyed the spinach salad with cherries, …

Cravings Cafe Offers Quiet and Comfort With Coffee

Head to Rocky River coffee house for a good brew, but not a good lunch.

I had high hopes for my late lunch at Cravings Cafe at 19701 Lake Road in Rocky River earlier this week. When I arrived, I found a quiet, comfortable cafe that would be a perfect setting for the piles of work I brought with me. I looked at the menu hanging over the counter and was disappointed to discover that it was an old menu and they don't serve from anymore. The options were limited to a cold case that had several different kinds of sandwiches and wraps. I settled on a Greek yogurt and granola bar— not much of a lunch, but would be a great weekend breakfast. For my drink, I decided on a decaf iced white mocha— usually a favorite. Unfortunately, this was made with a powder flavor, which does not translate to iced coffee. The espresso …

Enjoy great food and drink al fresco at some of the area’s top restaurant

Summer may officially be over today, but knowing Cleveland we have a few more days of patio weather, so here are my favorite patios Westlake and beyond. Best Patio for daytime: Erie Island Coffee 19300 Detroit Ave, Rocky River, OH The indoor/outdoor patio makes a beautiful place to relax and enjoy one of Northeast Ohio’s best cups of coffee. Best Patio to get your game on: Mitchells Tavern 28282 Center Ridge Road, Westlake, OH With sand volleyball leagues, Mitchells Tavern is a great place to work off the bar food you just enjoyed – like burgers or pizza. Best Patio to enjoy an Iron Chef: B Spot, 20 Main Street, Westlake, OH 44145 Enjoy Cleveland’s most famous chef’s burgers, fries and of course the Vanilla Bean Apple Pie Bacon milkshake. …

Bites Nearby: Mojo's Coffee Shop and More

Mojo’s in Bay Village offers coffee beverages and a good-sized menu for folks searching for a tasty breakfast or lunch.

While looking for a quiet, comfortable shop to enjoy a hot cup of joe, a friend and I discovered Mojo’s Coffee and More at 600 Dover Center Rd. in Bay Village, and it truly hit the spot.   With a full menu of food and a good variety of coffee drinks, Mojo's offers more than many area coffee shops. The food offerings include a variety of sandwiches, salads and soups along with breakfast choices like quiche, breakfast sandwiches and pastries. I went with the bacon and swiss quiche special, which was pretty good since it had been made fresh that morning. It was served with grapes, tomatoes and cucumbers. I enjoyed one of the fall drink specials – a pumpkin chill – which was delicious. My friend indulged and ordered a turtle mocha that she …

Take A Shopping Break At 87 West

The Crocker Park wine bar provides a comfortable and relaxed meal.

A wine bar in the middle of a shopping center— what’s not to like? 87 West in Crocker Park at 287 Crocker Park Blvd. is like an oasis after a day of shopping. The wine bar features a menu of wines by the bottle and by the glass. In addition to the wines, 87 West offers a variety of small plates, appetizers to share, flatbreads and desserts.  My friend and I headed out on a weekday evening and were able to grab seats at one of the comfortable nooks. A fireplace and cozy seating make 87 West comfortable and welcoming. We started with Taco Tots which are essentially nachos with tater tots – and were fantastic! Often times loaded tots don’t stand up to the toppings, but these were just crispy enough to hold the chorizo queso and peppers that …

Wood & Wine Is Mighty Fine

Authentic Italian pizza, pasta and plenty of wine makes this restaurant a great Italian eatery.

It was just a few years ago when nearby Avon’s restaurant scene offered only slim pickings. Now, there is a nice mix of hometown bars, kid-friendly establishments and upscale fare.   Wood & Wine, located on Chester Road in the former Dianna’s Deli, offers all of the above. A wood-fired pizza oven greets patrons as soon as they walk in. Guests can watch the pizzas as they are assembled before entering the crackling wood fire oven where temperatures can reach over 800 degrees. Two styles of hand tossed crusts are available. Neapolitan is a thinner crust and the Americana is a thicker crust. Flour and tomatoes are imported from Italy.  Classic Italian pizzas include pizza margarita ($9), escargot pizza ($10), basil pesto pizza ($9), the …

Menaro’s Ristorante Offers Italian Dishes With Class

The restaurant in the former Frank and Pauly’s location provides a menu deep in flavor and rich in choices.

With both friends and family who need gluten-free suggestions, I’m always on the lookout for places we can eat at together. To my surprise, the latest Westlake locale serving gluten-free dishes is Menaro’s Italian Ristorante at 25048 Sperry Rd. After reading that they have a gluten free menu, I invited a good friend with food sensitivities to join me. It took us a few days to get our schedules together and the restaurant was great with the ever changing reservation— something they accept by calling 440-892-9090, but that wasn’t necessary. Once we were finally able to get there, we took a seat outside— with summer nearing the end, I wasn’t going to pass up a patio— even one that over looks at parking lot and I-90. We let our server know …

Become a Mixologist at Menchie’s

Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt shop at Westgate Mall makes dessert fun.

This July, Westgate in Fairview Park got a little sweeter with the addition of Menchie’s – a frozen yogurt chain that lets you mix and match flavors and toppings at 20649 Center Ridge Road, Suite 608. When we arrived, I first saw the wall of soft-serve handles against the back wall. In fact, I browsed the flavors before even noticing a wall of toppings almost as big. After looking around a for a minute or so, one of the young ladies working there gave us a quick overview and pointed to the tray of sample cups on the counter— they encourage you to try the frozen yogurt before making a decision. So, we sampled. Flavors during our visit included vanilla, york peppermint patty, carrot cake, very berry sorbet, strawberry banana, blueberry, …

Try New Tastes at Viva Fernando

With beautiful presentation and interesting menu options, the Mediterranean and Spanish restaurant will take you on culinary journey - just don't forget to make a reservation

My trip to Viva Fernando got off to a rocky start. We had selected the Westlake restaurant at 24600 Detroit Rd after it was featured on a list of Cleveland’s best patios, but the weather had other plans— a downpour drove us inside. I arrived at the restaurant a few minutes before my friend and quickly learned that I should have made a reservation. Fortunately, since there were only two of us, they were able to seat us. Our biggest frustration was that we waited more than 20 minutes for a server to stop at our table. When someone finally came to take our drink orders, I selected their very strong sangria and my friend had a beer. When we ordered dinner, I learned that many of the dishes come with a side of saffron rice, steamed vegetables, …

Diverse Food Sets Rocky River Brewing Company Apart

This place is way more than a brewpub.

Yes, the Rocky River Brewing Company's name makes you think beer. But while its selection of award-winning hand-crafted beers is vast, what makes it different from other brew pubs is its food and atmosphere, which takes you back to another era with its architecture.  From its sirloin burgers, served with scrumptious beer-battered fries, to the Thai One On entree, which when sampled was just as good as any Thai restaurant, RRBC's menu is more than appealing to everyone. Start with the buffalo egg rolls and if there is still room for dessert, the molten chocolate brownie, topped with ice cream and Bailey's liqueur, melts in your mouth. Entrees range in price from $7.99 to $20. Tuesday night is a can't-miss as it is $6 burger night, while the…
