'Dark Knight' Weapons Suspect Pleads Guilty On 2 Charges, Still Faces A Third

Scott A. Smith has pleaded to counts of carrying concealed weapons but disputes that he was carrying a weapon under a disability

Scott Smith -- the man caught carrying a Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol, 4 knives and various medical supplies into a Westlake theater -- pleaded guilty to two counts of carrying concealed weapons today in Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, according to The Huffington Post. Smith, 38, of North Ridgeville, will still contest a third count of having weapons under a disability when his trial begins Wednesday. The disability, in this case, is a drug dependency, according to prosecutors. Smith's attorney, John Hildebrand, told The Huffington Post that his client's change of plea was not part of a plea deal. Instead, he pleaded guilty to the two weapons counts based upon the evidence. Smith entered the Regal Cinemas in Westlake on Aug. 4, …

Regal Cinema Attacker Going to Prison

Mitchell Kuhn attacked a woman in movie theatre parking lot, was chased down by bystander Mike Angelino

Mitchell Kuhn, the man who beat a woman in the parking lot of Regal Cinema in August, was sentenced to three years in prison on Tuesday for the attack. Kuhn attacked the 20-year-old woman, who he did not know, the night of August 14. The woman's screams were heard by Mike Angelino and Susan Monschein, who had just left Regal Cinema. Angelino spotted Kuhn, who had blood on his shirt, and took off after him while Monschein helped the woman. Angelino chased Kuhn through the parking lot, then north towards Detroit Road, then west through much of the Promenade, before tackling Kuhn near Five Guys. While chasing Kuhn, Angelino was also on the phone with 911 dispatchers. You can hear the audio of that call here, including the part where Angelino …

Drunk Man Attacks Cop at Regal Cinema, Knife Found

The following information was provided by the Westlake Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Just a few weeks before Scott A. Smith is scheduled to go on trial for bringing weapons into a showing of The Dark Night Rises, someone else got in trouble for bringing a knife into a theater there, as well as causing other kinds of problems. A 35-year-old man from Willoughby was drunk, and lying and sitting on the floor in one of the theatres at Regal Cinema around 8:15 p.m. on Nov. 4. An off-duty Westlake Police officer working security led the man out of the building. Once outside, the man lunged at the officer, who pinned him until backup arrived. The man was found to be carrying a spring-operated knife. The man is being charged with disorderly conduct by intoxication, resisting arrest and carrying various weapons. Considering the …

Bystander Chases Down Regal Cinema Attacker

Mike Angelino tracked Mitchell Kuhn from Regal Cinema parking lot to near Five Guys in the Promenade, where he tackled Kuhn. Listen to the 911 call here.

Mike Angelino didn't think running from the Regal Cinema parking lot all the way to the other end of the Promenade to chase down a man who had just allegedly attacked a woman is a big deal. The day after his brave deed, he's starting to realize it may just be a big deal. He spent Wednesday fielding calls from local media and getting lots of what he called "virtual high-fives on Facebook" while doing his job as a project manager for Franciscus Roofing. "The Crocker Park people want to take me to lunch, too," he said. The attention is exciting, if a little humbling, for Angelino. "My girlfriend is calling me a hero," Angelino, who lives in North Olmsted, said. "I don't think that." Angelino, 43, and his girlfriend, Susan Monschein of Elyria…

Man Attacks Woman at Regal Cinema

Bystander helped catch attacker, a New Mexico -- or maybe Elyria -- man now in Westlake jail.

A man who is either from New Mexico or Elyria is in Westlake jail after allegedly attacking and beating a woman around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night in the Regal Cinema parking lot at Crocker Park. Several people saw the incident, including one man who chased 25-year-old Mitchell Kuhn through the parking lot and helped a Westlake police officer subdue Kuhn so he could be arrested. The victim, a 20-year-old Cleveland woman, did not know Kuhn. She was taken to St. John Medical Center for cuts and bruises to her head, and received stitches. Kuhn complained of chest pains and was also taken to the hospital. He had been drinking prior to the attack, Westlake police reported. Illegal drug use is also suspected. After being checked out at the hospital…
