Here are the headlines you might have missed: Girls Basketball Player Breaks Career Point Record Kalpana Beach became the career scoring leader for Westlake High School girls basketball at Wednesday night’s game. The 6-foot-1 senior now has 1,266 career points. City Councilman Decides To Stay On Ward 2 Councilman Jim Connole decided not to resign his seat. Connole announced in November that he would leave his seat due to personal and professional commitments. The representative will leave his duties at planning commission, but remain on council. Westlake Rings In The New Year Right

Celebrations at Crocker Park kicked off 2011 with a bang.

Westlakers and neighboring residents flocked to Crocker Park on New Year's Eve to celebrate the city's bicentennial and the coming new year. From Irish dancers to juggling to family-friendly songs, there was something for everyone. The unseasonably warm weather boosted the mood and everyone was cheering to ring in 2011. When the clock struck midnight in Westlake's sister city of Tralee, Ireland, (7 p.m. here) the ball dropped, kicking off a year-long celebration of the city's 200th anniversary. Party-goers here could even watch festivities in Tralee via live telecast.

Westlake Kicks Off Bicentennial Celebration With Ball Drop, Fireworks and Entertainment

Hundreds turned out for telecast with sister city of Tralee, Ireland.

Crocker Park exploded with the sound of noisemakers, music and cheers New Year's Eve as Westlake kicked off a year-long celebration of their bicentennial. Fox 8's Kenny Crumpton emceed the entertainment that included bagpipes, Irish dancers and juggling. At 7 p.m., the sparkling ball dropped, marking midnight in Westlake's sister city of Tralee, Ireland. The grand finale was a fireworks display amidst shouts of Happy New Year! Neighbors from other cities on Cleveland's west side came to kick off the new year. "We were just driving around when we found this," said Yuliya Franklin of Rocky River. It was a fantastic evening of family friendly entertainment with students from the Leneghan Academy of Irish Dance, juggler, 30 Turtles sing along, outstanding ball drop, fireworks and spring like weather. The thousands that attended seemd to have a great time.   more ›
