Today, communities across the country will find ways to give back and honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy through the National Day of Service. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, this tradition began in 2009 with President Barack Obama’s first Inauguration. This year, the presidential Inauguration and Martin Luther King Jr. Day land on the same day of the year, and the National Day of Service in honor of King is taking place on Saturday. Do you want to volunteer at Ames Family Hospice House?
Several local residents have volunteered to participate in the 2013 National Day of Service on Saturday, Jan. 19, by helping hospice patients and their families at Ames Family Hospice House. At the hospice house, community residents will host a homemade soup luncheon for patients, families, caregivers and visitors in the Great Room, and will create handmade cards to give to veterans being cared for by Hospice of the Western Reserve. Residents in Avon, Avon Lake and Westlake are invited to volunteer. Ames Family Hospice is seeking new volunteers and will be starting education classes soon.
