Boy Followed, High School Asbestos Top Week's News

Here are this past week's top stories

A Westlake third-grader got a scare when he was followed by a strange man in a pickup truck while walking home from Hilliard Elementary School. Asbestos removal may go on at Westlake High School starting in April, while classes are still going on, to make sure the demolition of the current school is finished before the new high school opens for the 2013-14 school year. Iron Chef Michael Symon had fans filling Barnes & Noble in Crocker Park on Friday evening as he signed copies of his new book, Carnivore. It's been a great week for Westlake High School sports. Both the boys and girls soccer team reached the OHSAA district finals, and the football team captured the Southwestern Conference title with Friday's win over Brecksville-Broadview …

Michael Symon Draws Huge Crowd for Book-Signing

Fans flock to see local Iron Chef and get autographed copies of his new book, "Carnivore."

Michael Symon brought his new book, his mom and dad, and his inimitable laugh to a book-signing for her new book, Carnivore, at Barnes & Noble in Crocker Park on Friday night. He also brought a lot of people. Through the first hour of the book-signing, as more people came, the line went almost all the way around the second floor of the store. Sisters Nancy David and Amy Keller came all the way from Sandusky for the book-signing. They also had dinner at Symon's Crocker Park burger joint B Spot. "He's got such a great personality," Nancy said. "I like that he has his family on his show." "He's down-to-earth and real," Amy, who watches Symon's daytime show The Chew every day, said. "He's a die-hard browns fan, an Ohio guy." Symon's ability to…

In-N-Out is listed but not Five Guys? I've been to In-N-Out once and it's probably the most over hyped burger ever. Five Guys is better in almost every way possible.   more ›

Cleveland's Michael Symon Writes Love Letter to Hometown

Read the letter and tell us what you love about Cleveland

Chef Michael Symon, owner of Eton Plaza's B-Spot and other area restaurants, showed a little emotion and a lot of Cleveland pride in a touching love letter to Cleveland for The Huffington Post today. Raised in North Olmsted and a graduate of Lakewood's St. Edward High School, he reminisces about places all over the area: I remember when I was young and I would spend my entire weekends with you and my grandfather: heading to the Eastside and staying with my grandparents; taking the rapid Downtown; shopping at the Westside Market with all its fabulous aromas of smoked meats and baked breads. It is here I found my true love for food, for going to the historic Terminal Tower to pick up my Grandma at Higbees and heading back east to cook split …

Cleveland and the surrounding area has it all! Moved here in '96 from FL and have never looked back. You never run out of things to do, places to see, and it's beautiful too. Some areas look like Europe or New England -- charming towns with gazebos and commons. There's so much to do and the summers are glorious! Fall too! I love the sun shining on crystal snow and huge snowflakes falling! I've …   more ›

B Spot serves A+ Burgers

Don’t miss the newest location in Michael Symon’s chain of burger stops.

Like many Westsiders, I was thrilled to learn that Cleveland celebrity chef Michael Symon was bringing his burger joint, B Spot to Crocker Park. The restaurant at 20 Main Street in Westlake joins locations in Woodmere and Strongsville that serve gourmet burgers, bratwurst and a wide assortment of beers. We went on a Monday night and waited about a half an hour— less than the 45 minute wait we expected. B Spot opened last week, so I was not surprised that we had to wait. The décor is cool and casual, with a large patio and plenty of seating. A large bar fills the middle of the restaurant, and if you have a small party or don’t want to wait, you can grab a seat there if one is available. While we were waiting, we heard the staff mention that…

B Spot Brings Beers, Burgers, Brats and More to Crocker Park

Owner Michael Symon says Westlake is an ideal spot.

Michael Symon’s much-anticipated B Spot restaurant opened to a full house on Wednesday, with the Iron Chef himself on hand for the big day. Symon has incorporated all kinds of B foods into the menu from brats, bologna and big salads to handcrafted beers and bourbon. The main attraction, though, is Symon’s gourmet burgers like the “Symon Says,” topped with bologna, coleslaw, whip sauce and American cheese. The newest restaurant seats about 150 and features a large patio seating, booths and a bar where Agave Tequileria & Cocina was once located. Menu prices range from $5 for shakes and sides to about $9 for gourmet burgers and $11 for salads. Cooks use high-quality beef from Pat LaFrieda which is free of growth hormones and antibiotics. The …

Michael Symon's newest B Spot officially opened for business at Crocker Park Wednesday, packing the place in the first half hour. "We've been full since 11:30 a.m.," Symon said. Check out some other stories on the newest restaurant in town: B Spot Brings Beers, Burgers, Brats and More to Crocker Park B Spot Has Fast Service, But Not Fast Food

B Spot Has Fast Service, But Not Fast Food

New handheld devices mean faster service and more security.

It only takes about 10 minutes to get a gourmet burger at Michael Symon’s newest B Spot, opening today at Crocker Park. Thanks to high-tech point of sale devices, servers can put an order in to the kitchen without even leaving the table. “It’s all part of the concept,” said Sam Lindsley, director of operations for Michael Symon Restaurants. “It’s a quick-serve, fast, casual rock ‘n roll burger joint.” The new devices mean that the bartender can start making a drink while you’re still picking out burger toppings. “We want the servers to stay on the floor, not go in the back and wait in line for their turn to go on the computer,” Lindsley said. “This really improves the quality of service.” At the end of the meal, a server can swipe your …
