Margot Shumway Finishes Sixth at 2012 Olympics

Westlake native Shumway and Sarah Trowbridge finish almost 15 seconds behind gold medal winners in women's double sculls final

Margot Shumway's 2012 Olympics ended Friday with no medal. The Westlake native and rowing teammate Sarah Trowbridge of Guilford, Conn., placed sixth in the finals of women's double sculls at Eton Dorney, outside London. According to the official 2012 London Olympics website, Shumway and Trowbridge finished in 7 minutes, 10.54 seconds. That's 14.72 seconds behind the winners of the gold medal, Anna Watkins and Katherine Grainger of Great Britain (6:55.82). Kim Crow and Brooke Pratley of Australia won the silver in 6:58.55. The Polish team of Magdalena Fularczyk and Julia Michalska took the bronze in 7:07.92. The medalists were followed by teams from China and New Zealand, then Shumway and Trowbridge. Shumway Makes Rowing Finals at 2012 Olympics

Westlake native Margot Shumway and Sarah Trowbridge place second in repechage to qualify for women's double sculls finals

The second time was the charm for Margot Shumway. Shumway and teammate Sarah Trowbridge of Guilford, Conn., placed second in the repechage for the women's double sculls rowing Tuesday at the 2012 Olympics. That finish puts them in the finals. The race was very close. Shumway and Trowbridge finished the race in 7:10.37, just over a second ahead of the Czech Republic team of Lenka and Jitka Antosova in 7:11.68. That tiny bit of time made the difference between going to the finals, or not. Only the top two finishers advanced. Shumway and Trowbridge finished less than one second behind the winners, Min Wang and Weiwei Zhu of China, who finished in 7:09.65. The finals are Friday, August 3, at Eton Dorney.
