How Westlake Voted in 2012 Election

We've got the numbers, precinct by precinct, on who Westlake chose for the presidency, Senate, Congress and State Senate and House.

While the nation saw Cuyahoga County as solidly blue during Tuesday night's national election coverage, dig down to the local level and a new color emerges. Westlake was solidly red this election, choosing the Republican for all the national and state legislative races. Mitt Romney won Westlake by almost 2,200 votes over Barack Obama. In the hotly contested Senate race, Josh Mandel narrowly beat victorious incumbent Sherrod Brown by just under 200 votes. See the charts below for precinct-by-precinct results.

Mandel Says Change Needed to Support Northeast Ohio

State Treasurer helps kick off "Buckeye Blitz."

Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel, currently campaigning for the U.S. Senate, made a stop in Avon Lake Sept. 8, motivating volunteers who will canvass Ohio. Mandel made the stop as part of the Republican “Buckeye Blitz” that will see volunteers go door-to-door across Ohio urging support for Republican candidates. Prior to dispatching volunteers to canvass Northeast Ohio door-to-door, Mandel spoke to the group about his vision for Northeast Ohio including tapping the state for oil and gas and saving the Avon Lake Power Plant.  Mandel said he would support eliminating the regulation that is partially to blame for the expected closing of the Avon Lake power plant in 2015. Earlier this year, a spokesperson for the plant said the closing was pending “…

This guy is such a joke. We're going to restore manufacturing greatness by making parts for oil and gas rigs? This is the guy who opposed the auto industry bailout. Then he blames the auto bailout for closing a few dealerships and some pension reductions. What does he think would have happened if the auto industry went bankrupt? Bankrupt companies do not maintain full pensions and they certainly …   more ›

Northeast Ohio Conservatives Rally Around Josh Mandel

Republican voters at a rally in Solon say GOP U.S. Senate candidate Josh Mandel is the polar opposite of his opponent, Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown and President Barack Obama.

Joy and Lowell Wolfe say they didn't become politically active until Barack Obama was elected to the White House. Since then, the couple from Geauga County has volunteered for Republican causes, including working to repeal the new health care law. They want to kick Obama out of office, and send Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown packing too. They see Brown as walking in lock-step with the president. "When people of Ohio had differences with the president, Sherrod Brown cast his vote with the president," said Lowell Wolfe. Enter Josh Mandel. Mandel is challenging Brown for his Senate seat. Currently Ohio's treasurer, Mandel has energized voters like the Wolfes who make up the Republican base. The Wolfes and roughly 200 other votes came to the …

To Guy Thomas: You Sir, are an absolute idiot. Have you ever heard of spell check? I digress. Have you ever taken a course on the language that I assume you would ardently argue is our country's "main language"? I would ask if you have ever taken a grammar course...but I don't want you to spend too much time trying to google "grammar".   more ›

Earl, you're not even close to being convincing. If someone doubled my salary and dropped my health insurance and 401K matching, It wouldnt make my job more crappy and attract lesser candidates. It's no different for any line of work. The pensions are not sustainable. The double dipping by govt workers is not sustainable. I realize you're a schill for unions, but you need to work in the private …   more ›

Josh Mandel in Drag: Huffington Publishes Beachwood High School Photo

U.S. Senate candidate appears in padded bra, spandex shorts in 1996 yearbook

It looks like Josh Mandel is a pretty funny guy - or, at least he was as a student at Beachwood High School. The Huffington Post published a photo today from the 1996 yearbook. The photo depicts local alum and state treasurer Josh Mandel, dressed in a padded bra and spandex shorts, spotting another boy in drag in the weight lifting room. Click here to see the full article. His campaign spokesperson responded to the Post that Mandel knows humor is an important part of keeping up morale, adding, "He also thinks it's important to have a spotter when you're doing lat pull downs." We are working to get the story behind the photo! Did you know Mandel in high school? Who's the guy Mandel is spotting? Email me at Nikki.Ferrell@Patch.com, or tell …

Tea Party Express Rolls Into Avon As Part of 'Reclaiming America' Tour

Crowd of 500 greets speakers, singers.

The Tea Party Express may have planned a party, but the Sept. 3 stop in Avon proved to attract a less-than-stellar turnout for what was Ohio's only stop. Victoria Jackson didn’t show. The Republican presidential candidates didn’t show. The television cameras didn’t show, nor did the projected crowd of 5,000 arrive at All Pro Freight Stadium. That didn’t stop speakers on the bus tour from enthusiastically touting their message of lowered national debt, reduced government spending and opposition to taxes. Approximately 500 people, including volunteers, vendors and Tea Party Express people spent a few hours on Saturday at the rally, which began winding down by 6:30 p.m. Speakers and singers promoted the group’s values and conservative values …

Joe, you probably don't realize it, but the term "teabagger" is an offensive sexual term, and you should avoid using it. I didn't see Nate or Tim there, but I was there. And there were far more than a few hundred people who showed up, who kept coming and going all day long. I'd estimate at least a thousand or more. I find it amazing that you can denigrate an event where there was the passing out …   more ›
