After Stormy Opening Day, D'Italia Has Smooth Sailing

New Italian eatery is in old A&J's spot

A superstorm hitting town the same day you launch your new business may be unsettling for some. But for siblings Lisa Andrews and Rich Dow, it was just fine. The two opened their Italian eatery, D'Italia, on Oct. 28, the day SuperStorm Sandy hit town. It was designed to be a soft opening, Dow said, so they could get settled in easier. "Turned out we didn't have to worry about being swamped with huge crowds with that weather," Andrews said.  But since then, she said, business has been building up as word of mouth has spread that they're open. Dow and Andrews had been working on renovating the former A&J's site since May. D'Italia offers homemade sauces, pastas, raviolis, lasagna, soups, desserts and other dishes made from family recipes. …

Italian Deli and Market Coming to Westlake

D'Italia to offer home-style Italian food for carry-out at former A&J's Grill site

Lisa Andrews and Rich Dow have long dreamed of owning a food business together. The siblings' dad worked for years at the old Italian market Alesci's near Lee Road on the east side. Family gatherings usually revolved around making food or eating it, or both. Andrews recalled ravioli-making parties with their Italian mom and grandmother, and cookie-baking parties at Christmastime. Now, they're making the dream a reality with D'Italia. The Italian market and deli will open in late August or early September at 26285 Detroit Road, the site of the former A&J's Grill. In addition to a deli case featuring Italian deli meats and cheeses, there will be Italian staples like ravioli, fresh pasta, sauce, meatballs and lasagna, all made on-site from …

Menaro’s Ristorante Offers Italian Dishes With Class

The restaurant in the former Frank and Pauly’s location provides a menu deep in flavor and rich in choices.

With both friends and family who need gluten-free suggestions, I’m always on the lookout for places we can eat at together. To my surprise, the latest Westlake locale serving gluten-free dishes is Menaro’s Italian Ristorante at 25048 Sperry Rd. After reading that they have a gluten free menu, I invited a good friend with food sensitivities to join me. It took us a few days to get our schedules together and the restaurant was great with the ever changing reservation— something they accept by calling 440-892-9090, but that wasn’t necessary. Once we were finally able to get there, we took a seat outside— with summer nearing the end, I wasn’t going to pass up a patio— even one that over looks at parking lot and I-90. We let our server know …

Bites Nearby: La Campagna Brings Traditions of the Italian Countryside To Westlake

This small eatery is perfect for lingering with friends and family.

When I’ve asked around about which restaurants I have to visit in Westlake, one name keep coming up – La Campagna at 27337 Detroit Rd. Family owned and operated, La Campagna is small - only nine tables were set up the day we visited. Our server was Chef Carmella Fragassi’s niece Keeley Brunner. With a late 8:30 p.m. reservation, my friend and I were the only ones in the restaurant, which had been full earlier that night.   The dining room is full of wines, imported food and gifts. It doubles as a pantry, something that contributes to the unique feel which felt like a scene set just for us. La Campagna doesn’t print menus – the daily selections are based on the number of reservations, what food is in season and what Chef Carmella finds at …
