Homecoming Game Official Busted for Pot

The following arrest information was provided by the Westlake Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

An accused marijuana dealer made the Westlake Police Department's job very easy ... by pulling into the police station parking lot. Shortly before 6 p.m. on Sept. 28, Roger Ward, 22, of Chardon came into the police station parking lot and identified himself to an officer as a referee working the Homecoming football game between Westlake and Olmsted Falls. He asked the officer where he should park for the game. The officer noticed the interior of Ward's car reeked of pot, and saw stems and leaves on the center console. A search of the car turned up marijuana in jars and plastic containers, cigars filled with marijuana, plastic baggies, a scale, a pipe, a knife and $1,391 in cash. Anthony Rose Jr. of Brecksville turned himself in to Avon police to face charges in the crash that killed a construction worker at the Nagel Road interchange and shut down I-90 westbound at Crocker Road for five hours on Sept. 12. Parade, football game, reunion make for a full weekend

It's been a great start to Homecoming weekend in Westlake. The fun got underway Friday with the Homecoming Parade from Lee Burneson Middle School to Westlake High School, featuring class floats, school teams and clubs, and school and community leaders. From the parade, it was on to the football stadium, where fans got to see the Demons beat Olmsted Falls, 26-6, in the Homecoming Game. Friday was also the night of the Westlake/Dover All Class Reunion at LaCentre. Alumni enjoyed an evening of getting together with old friends. "I'd been hearing about it for a couple of months," said Dave Beattie, Class of 1975, who bought his ticket on Thursday. "I always try to go to my own class reunions, so I thought this would be fun." What are you doing this weekend?

If you want to continue the good times from Friday night's Homecoming events and All Class Reunion, get together Saturday morning at the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast in the Westlake High School cafeteria. After breakfast, tours of the high school will be held, with a preview of what the new high school will look like and musical performances. After two weeks of being postponed by weather, the Westlake Historical Society Yard Sale is on! It will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of the Clague House Museum. News of the Week: I-90 Closed After Fatal Crash, American Greetings Gets State Money

Here's what happened in Westlake this week

A construction worker on the Nagel Road interchange in Avon was killed after being struck by a car in a two car crash. Interstate 90 was shut down from Crocker Road to Route 83 for about five hours, creating traffic jams in Westlake. The worker was identified as Peter Maglis, 63, of Campbell, OH. American Greetings is due to get $1.25 million from the State of Ohio as part of the deal it made to stay in Ohio. It is the final payment of the $2.5 million the state gave the company, which is building its world headquarters in Crocker Park. Two people were arrested after their car flipped on the westbound on-ramp to I-90 at Crocker Road.
