Stay Healthy This Winter With A Flu Shot

The CDC recommends that everyone over 6 months old get vaccinated.

With flu activity increasing around the country, it might be a good time to get that flu shot. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Ohio has seen a regional increase since the beginning of the year. The CDC says the best way to prevent influenza is to get a shot. Other tips include the basics like washing your hands, sneezing or coughing into the crook of your arm and finishing all antiviral drugs prescribed by a doctor. Many clinics around Westlake give the shot for a minimal cost with no appointment necessary. Prescription Transfers Limited To Once A Year

New state law is aimed at better safety.

The Ohio State Board of Pharmacy is limiting the number of times residents can transfer prescriptions to once a year. The new law, which went into effect Jan. 1, is aimed at improving safety, pharmacists say. Especially in the stagnant economy, customers are bargain shopping, taking prescriptions from store to store for incentives like discounts and gift cards. This can lead to confusion and bad drug interactions, said Tom Nameth, director of pharmacy operations for Discount Drug Mart on Detroit Road. "The board of pharmacy made this rule change for the betterment of the public," he said.
