Learn How To Use Patch and Facebook to Boost Your Charity's Profile

Patch is hosting an event for charities next month to help organizations learn how to use Patch and Facebook. "Telling Your Story (Lite) on Patch and Facebook" is set for May 1 at 8:30 a.m. at the Residence Inn, 3628 Park East Drive, Beachwood. The event is being produced in partnership with the Center for Community Solutions and the Saint Luke's Foundation. IRS Offers Up Some Tax Advice for Year-End Giving

Get ready for tax season with these tips for preparing your returns.

Plan now and be ready for tax time. With the holidays and the end of the calendar year quickly approaching, the Internal Revenue Service is offering up some tax tips for donating around the holidays. The following tips are straight from the IRS, with some new features noted in the code: Rules for donating clothing and household items To be deductible, clothing and household items donated to charity generally must be in good used condition or better. A clothing or household item for which a taxpayer claims a deduction of over $500 does not have to meet this standard if the taxpayer includes a qualified appraisal of the item with the return. Regional Police Unit to Kick Off Peace Officers Memorial Week with Benefit Run

Sunday's fifth annual Westshore Enforcement Bureau will raise funds to support the families of fallen officers.

The Westshore Enforcement Bureau S.W.A.T. 5K Run & 1-Mile Walk/Run just keeps growing. Over the last four years, the specialized law enforcement unit has raised $38,000 to support the families of fallen officers and on Sunday they’re hoping to raise another $20,000. The race, which kicks off Peace Officers Memorial Week, benefits Concerns of Police Survivors, better known as COPS. COPS helps the families of officers killed in the line of duty by organizing peer support groups, an annual trip to Washington D.C. for the National Police Officer’s Memorial, the Blue Light Memorial Dinner and kids’ summer camps where the children of fallen officers can talk, share their feelings and play. Festivus Finds Fun Ways to Raise Money for a Good Cause

VANITYLAB salon and spa will host benefit party with food, music, arts and more for The Gathering Place April 16.

Part fundraiser, part art show and all party, the third annual Festivus will be a night of food, raffles, music, cocktails and silent auctions to benefit The Gathering Place from 7:30-10:30 p.m. April 16. Angie Hofelich, owner of VANITYLAB, has been hosting a benefit event for local nonprofits since 2009. This year, she is expanding the party into two parts - one at VANITYLAB and one at The Gathering Place. “Last year we got in trouble because we had too many people,” Hofelich said. “We’ll split it up this year so that we can have a more comfortable event.” Last year’s Festivus drew more than 400 people to the salon at 24945 Detroit Rd.
