Cargill Issues Ground Turkey Recall

Customers can return products to stores for refunds

Cargill Value Added Meats Retail has  issued a voluntary recall on about 185,000 pounds of ground turkey products. According to a press release from the Cargill company, the recall affects 85 percent lean ground turkey produced at the Springdale, Ark. facility on Aug. 23, 24, 30 and 31. The facility is the same one that was involved in a recall in early August.  According to the release, the U.S. Department of Agriculture found the same strain of Salmonella Heidelberg that was present in the previous recall during a review of the facility. Cargill Recalls 36 Million Pounds of Ground Turkey

Giant Eagle stores remove products for salmonella risk from its area locations.

Meat giant Cargill Inc. is recalling close to 36 million pounds of ground turkey following a salmonella outbreak that has killed one and sickened more than 70 people across the country, including some in Ohio. The United States Department of Agriculture announced Wednesday that the products may be contaminated with a multi-drug resistant strain of Salmonella Heidelberg. Cargill products potentially affected were produced at the company’s Springdale, Ark. facility from Feb. 20, 2011, through Aug. 2, 2011, according to a company press release.
