Bites Nearby: Patios Make Summer Last Longer

Enjoy great food and drink al fresco at some of the area’s top restaurant

Summer may officially be over today, but knowing Cleveland we have a few more days of patio weather, so here are my favorite patios Westlake and beyond. Best Patio for daytime: Erie Island Coffee 19300 Detroit Ave, Rocky River, OH The indoor/outdoor patio makes a beautiful place to relax and enjoy one of Northeast Ohio’s best cups of coffee. Best Patio to get your game on: Mitchells Tavern 28282 Center Ridge Road, Westlake, OH With sand volleyball leagues, Mitchells Tavern is a great place to work off the bar food you just enjoyed – like burgers or pizza. Best Patio to enjoy an Iron Chef: B Spot, 20 Main Street, Westlake, OH 44145 Enjoy Cleveland’s most famous chef’s burgers, fries and of course the Vanilla Bean Apple Pie Bacon milkshake. …

B Spot serves A+ Burgers

Don’t miss the newest location in Michael Symon’s chain of burger stops.

Like many Westsiders, I was thrilled to learn that Cleveland celebrity chef Michael Symon was bringing his burger joint, B Spot to Crocker Park. The restaurant at 20 Main Street in Westlake joins locations in Woodmere and Strongsville that serve gourmet burgers, bratwurst and a wide assortment of beers. We went on a Monday night and waited about a half an hour— less than the 45 minute wait we expected. B Spot opened last week, so I was not surprised that we had to wait. The décor is cool and casual, with a large patio and plenty of seating. A large bar fills the middle of the restaurant, and if you have a small party or don’t want to wait, you can grab a seat there if one is available. While we were waiting, we heard the staff mention that…

North Olmsted’s Fat Heads Brewery and Saloon Offers Big Portions, Big Value

Founded in Pittsburg, the brewery has been serving great beer and tasty food since 2009.

I’m going to have to forgive Fat Heads Brewery and Saloon for its Pittsburgh roots. The “classic restaurant and brewery” at 24581 Lorain Road in North Olmsted was a fun stop for an easy Saturday night meal. We arrived in the midst of the dinner rush, so we waited about 20 minutes for a table which  gave us plenty of time to preview the menu before being seated in a booth that comfortably fit all six of us. My friends were interested in the selection of Fat Heads beer - they offer 10 “house-made” selections and a few friends started with a taster portion, a 2 ounce glass that is a great way to get a taste for what is available. Even I, a non-beer drinker, found one I enjoyed. Also on tap are several guest beers if none of the Fat Heads …

Moosehead Saloon Specializes In The Unusually Delicious

Friendly service and comfortable patio make Moosehead Saloon a great stop for warm summer nights.

With warm weather finally upon us, I was thrilled to visit one of Westlake’s great patios at the Moosehead Saloon at 694 Dover Center Rd. After a brief wait, my friend and I were seated on outside, right next to a great fireplace. The fireplace was part of their outdoor heating system with two heaters and blowers to keep the outside dining area warm when nights get chilly. We were struck by the number of unusual dishes the restaurant had on their menu – my eye was immediately drawn to a turkey burger with warmed cherries, vegetable cream cheese and cranberry mayo, which I eventually enjoyed as my meal. As usual, my friend and I started with some potato skins – but these weren’t any ordinary skins. Called “munch skins” on the menu, we …
