Nordstrom Rack Filling Old Borders Spot in Promenade

Get ready for some bargain-hunting ... in about a year

After more than a year, the former Borders store in The Promenade at Crocker Park is going to be occupied. Nordstrom Rack, the discount outlet for Nordstrom, will open there in the fall of 2013. The store will be about 34,000 square feet. This will be the first Nordstrom on the west side. There's a Nordstrom at Beachwood Place and a Nordstrom Rack in Legacy Village. Nordstrom Rack carries current items at 50 to 60 percent off original Nordstrom prices. It also sells clothing, accessories and shoes from many of the brands carried in Nordstrom stores, bought specifically for Nordstrom Rack, with savings up to 70 percent off. "We're excited to have the opportunity to better serve Cleveland's west side community with our new Rack at Crocker …

Crocker Park Apartments Up for Vote

Apartments may be added above former Borders

Westlake voters will decide whether to allow changes to development at Crocker Park and The Promenade. City Council approved an amendment to the zoning, which would allow 22 apartments to be built above the former Borders in The Promenade. That building, which also contains Bed Bath & Beyond, is not zoned for housing. Council president Michael Killeen explained that, under the city charter, voters must approve these changes, as it is a change in the housing density allowed in the development's zoning. The issue is expected to go on the November 6 ballot. These proposed apartments would be alongside a planned hotel which will be built in what is now parking lot and open space behind the Borders building towards Crocker Road. One resident …

Building would probably be better as a parking garage considering how densely populated it is during weekends and events. Personally I'll be voting no on this issue. http://www.cityofwestlake.org/pdfs/CouncilMinutes/2011/20110915CnlMin.pdf   more ›

The 411 on Borders Going Out of Business Sale

The Westlake location is among hundreds of stores liquidating inventory before closing in September.

The “Going Out of Business” liquidation sale is under way at Borders in Westlake —just as it is at all Borders stores across Northeast Ohio and the country. The sale comes on the heels of Borders’ bankruptcy liquidation approval, where a U.S. bankruptcy court judge ordered the sale of over $700 million in books, music, DVDs, and other media items, along with store furniture, fixtures and other relevant retail equipment. Items were marked down at all stores starting Friday, July 22 and customers were already taking trips to visit the store one last time. Gradual increases in existing stock price markdowns are expected through mid-to-late September, after which the court-ordered sale will end and all stores will close their doors for good. …

Westlake Borders to Stay Open Through September

Liquidation will likely begin on Friday.

Borders Group Inc. announced Monday that it will be closing up shop on its remaining 400 stores before selling itself to a liquidation group, according to reports from Reuters. The Borders location at the Promenade in Westlake will probably be open through September. A store employee said plans are tentative, but the store is "starting to liquidate" on Friday and continue through September. Borders declared bankruptcy in February, closing about 200 stores. The Westlake location, along with others in Beachwood, Solon, Strongsville and Tower City were spared.
