State Senator Tom Patton and State Representative Nan Baker praise school's leaders, community
Monday's Westlake Board of Education meeting at Hilliard Elementary School was also a chance to celebrate. State senator Tom Patton and state representative Nan Baker both showed up to congratulate the district and the community for Hilliard being one of two Westlake City Schools being named a National Blue Ribbon School. Hilliard and Bassett Elementary School were two of only 13 schools in Ohio to be named Blue Ribbon Schools. Current Hilliard principal Kim Conley and former principal Mary Flanagan shared the spotlight with the visiting officials. Westlake City Council approved plans for Our Lady of the Wayside to operate an adult day care center for people with developmental disabilities. The facility will be in the rear of what has been known as the King James II building at 24650 Center Ridge Road. Scott A. Smith, the North Ridgeville resident accused of bringing knives along with ammunition and a gun to a late-night showing of The Dark Knight Rises at Regal Cinema in Crocker Park in August, will stand trial on weapons charges in December. Two Westlake elementary schools win national honor
Westlake City Schools earned a big honor on Monday as Bassett and Hilliard Elementary Schools were named winners of the 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award. They are two of only 13 schools in Ohio to earn the honor, which is given by the U.S. Department of Education. Both Bassett and Hilliard were among the top schools in state assessments, received the top score of Excellent on their state report cards, and earned a high Performance Index Scores. Bassett earned the top score of Excellent on the most recent state report card and a Performance Index Score of 110.4, which reflects the achievement of every student.
