Man looking for a free ride closer to Avon Lake.
A 42-year-old homeless man requested an ambulance three times in Westlake on March 27 between 5:37 a.m. and 9:24 a.m. His ailment? None at all; he just wanted a ride closer to Avon Lake,according to Westlake police. In the first instance, he went up to a Hilliard Boulevard home and asked the resident to call for a squad. Upon arrival at St. John Medical Center courtesy of Westlake Fire Department for his reported gout and kidney stones complaint, he immediately walked away without being seen. At 8:12 a.m. he was outside a Center Ridge Road private school asking for an ambulance ride again. Westlake police officers sent him on his way. In the final episode, he went into a Center Ridge Road medical office building asking for the same ride. …

Westlake Police are looking for suspects in multiple recent thefts in the city
An unlucky pizza delivery man's car was stolen from the the Detroit Road pizza parlor where he worked at about 9:30 p.m. on March 2. He had left the 1999 Toyota Camry running, according to Westlake Police. The car was found at 3:11 p.m. the next day in an apartment parking lot on Marview Drive. Other thefts in the city that police are investigating: The girl left the keys in the center console and the XG35 was stolen shortly thereafter, police said. It was found two days later parked outside of a business down the street. A thief (or thieves) stole jewelry, coins and credit cards from the house. Westlake and Rocky River police officers arrested the woman and man accused of setting the teenager up and robbing him, respectively
An 18-year-old Westlake man was mugged while trying to sell his iPod. The teenager found a presumptive buyer -- a 21-year-old woman from Cleveland -- on Craigslist and agreed to meet her a few minutes before midnight on Feb. 16. The woman arrived alone in her car and conversed with the teen. Then a man on foot jumped the victim, took his iPod, threatened to kill him and ran off, according to Westlake Police. The woman drove away also as the teenager called police. Westlake and Rocky River police officers stopped the woman's car at the intersection of Clague Road and Hilliard Boulevard. Three Westlake men were the victim of cloned debit cards in the last three days
Westlake Police Department are investigating several recent, seemingly unrelated identity thefts that affected residents in the city. They are: Purchases amounting to $6,800 were made from online retailers, cable TV and cell phone providers, and much of the merchandise was shipped to Miami, FL. The victim’s son has been checking his father’s bank accounts since a similar incident occurred in January.The bank did not allow that transaction to go through and closed the account. As per these more recent thefts, the bank is in the process of closing the new account and refunding the money The police investigation is ongoing. Three businesses in Westlake were broken into on a single night and all three have owners of Asian descent, according to Westlake Police
Three businesses owned by persons of Asian descent were broken into on the night of Feb. 24 in Westlake. First, the front door glass of China Wok was found broken at 4:14 a.m. by a passing patrolman. The vandal -- whoever he, she or they were -- did not enter the restaurant and nothing was taken from it, according to Westlake Police. Police checked Thai Spice, which is on the same street at, 4:30 a.m. and found, similarly, the glass from its front door had been broken out. Furthermore, money had been stolen from the second restaurant's register. Finally, a nail salon across the street from the second restaurant -- Modern Nails -- was found to have a broken window. Westlake Police are looking for a man who broke into the fitness center of an apartment complex on Detroit Road
Westlake Police are looking for a man who broke into the fitness center at Sturbridge Square complex on Feb. 23 and 24. First, the man soaked in the complex's Jacuzzi. Then he slept in its workout room -- waking and leaving before anyone else found him. His break-ins were caught on security camera, police said. However, while officers have checked regularly, the man has not returned since Feb. 24. The Bay Village woman's blood-alcohol content was more than three times the legal level when she was arrested, according to Westlake Police
A 39-year-old woman from Bay Village is accused of driving drunk and leaving the scene of a crash on Feb. 21 in Westlake. According to Westlake Police, she first struck a truck on Clemens Road, then hit a mailbox on Cahoon Road and drove away from both crashes. Police spotted her parked in a lot on Detroit Road. She asked for officers to take her home so she could go into rehab but they arrested her instead, police said. The woman's blood-alcohol content was .295, according to police, which is more than three times the legal limit with which you can drive -- .08. The woman was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, failure to control and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Westlake Police are looking for the thief (or thieves) who broke into a home on Hollywood Drive on Feb. 16 and stole jewelry and two frozen turkeys. The rear door of the home was forced open some time between 2 and 7:15 p.m., according to police. Also, neighbors told police that they saw an unfamiliar red Ford F-150 pickup truck in the driveway that afternoon. Westlake Police received complaints about a similar truck on Carriage Park Oval earlier that day. Residents said the man and a woman who were in that truck went up to two homes in the neighborhood. A neighbor called Westlake Police after they saw one of the revelers urinating off a balcony
A group of teenagers racked up the party fouls after Westlake Police busted their underage drinking party on Feb. 23. One of the host's neighbors on Saddlebrook Lane called police when they saw a reveler urinating from the balcony, Westlake Police said. When police arrived to the apartment in question, the partiers drew the blinds, turned off the lights and refused to answer the door. However, authorities contacted the apartment owner -- who was out of town -- and she, in turn, called her 17-year-old son and ordered him to answer the door, police said.
