Michael Symon Draws Huge Crowd for Book-Signing

Fans flock to see local Iron Chef and get autographed copies of his new book, "Carnivore."

Michael Symon brought his new book, his mom and dad, and his inimitable laugh to a book-signing for her new book, Carnivore, at Barnes & Noble in Crocker Park on Friday night. He also brought a lot of people. Through the first hour of the book-signing, as more people came, the line went almost all the way around the second floor of the store. Sisters Nancy David and Amy Keller came all the way from Sandusky for the book-signing. They also had dinner at Symon's Crocker Park burger joint B Spot. "He's got such a great personality," Nancy said. "I like that he has his family on his show." "He's down-to-earth and real," Amy, who watches Symon's daytime show The Chew every day, said. Presidential Debate, Playoff Soccer Among Top Events

Here's what's going on this week

The final presidential debate is Monday night. Patch is hosting a debate-watching party at Nighttown in Cleveland Heights. Come on over and join the fun. Westlake's girls soccer team hosts Amherst Steele in the OHSAA Division I district semifinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lee Burneson Middle School. Tickets are $4 for students, $6 for adults. There are no senior citizen discounts and no conference or Demons passes are accepted at the gate. Westlake's boys soccer team hosts Avon in the Division I district semifinals at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lee Burneson Middle School. Where to Find Harry Potter Author J.K. Rowling’s New Book in Westlake

The new book, The Casual Vacancy, is to be released Sept. 27

There may be no more Harry Potter books, but author J.K. Rowling is still writing. Her new book, The Casual Vacancy, is set not in the land of wizards but among ordinary muggles. And it's a novel for grown-ups. More than 2 million hardcover copies of her first novel are set to be released simultaneously in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Germany. You can buy it in Westlake at Barnes & Noble. Westlake Porter Library will have the book starting Sept. 27, said Elaine Willis, public relations associate for the library. 1) Six young local bands will be battling it out for some studio time and the chance to sell a song on iTunes at the Battle of the Bands at Westlake Porter Public Library today. Dempsey Hall, Krych Sisters, Lumpia, The Sludge, Texting While Driving and The Triptyx (all made up of musicians between 12 and 18) will all take the stage between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The concert will be outside, weather permitting, so bring a chair! 2) The Ice Cream King by Steve Metzger is this week's book at Barnes & Noble's Friday Morning Storytime.
