Man Attacks Woman at Regal Cinema

Bystander helped catch attacker, a New Mexico -- or maybe Elyria -- man now in Westlake jail.

A man who is either from New Mexico or Elyria is in Westlake jail after allegedly attacking and beating a woman around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night in the Regal Cinema parking lot at Crocker Park. Several people saw the incident, including one man who chased 25-year-old Mitchell Kuhn through the parking lot and helped a Westlake police officer subdue Kuhn so he could be arrested. The victim, a 20-year-old Cleveland woman, did not know Kuhn. She was taken to St. John Medical Center for cuts and bruises to her head, and received stitches. Kuhn complained of chest pains and was also taken to the hospital. He had been drinking prior to the attack, Westlake police reported. Illegal drug use is also suspected. Dad Accused of Assaulting Daughter, Friend

The following arrest information was provided by the Westlake Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Family drama took a violent turn at an Adelaide Street home, resulting in a man's arrest. A 20-year-old woman who lives there had a 21-year-old male friend over to visit the night of July 30, even though he is not allowed to be there. Another woman who lives in the home told the young woman's father. He fired a single shot from a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun at the young man, then pistol-whipped him with the gun. The young man fled the house and called Westlake Police. After the young man fled, the father then turned on his daughter, beating her with the gun and kicking her as well. The young man was taken to St. John Medical Center for injuries to his left ear. The daughter refused treatment. The father is being charged with …

Police Blotter: Man Puts Computer Down His Pants

Officers also arrested an assault suspect hiding in the woods near his home.

Man Stuffs E-Reader Down His Pants A $200 e-reader was stolen from Borders at 1:12 p.m. May 9. Surveillance equipment showed that a white man took the device and removed the security sensor before sticking it into the back of his pants and leaving. Police Find Assault Suspect in Woods Nearby Home A 55-year-old Westlake woman at St. John Medical Center told police that her 59-year-old live-in boyfriend assaulted her at about 11:30 p.m. May 7. The woman was being treated for injuries to her chest and forearm when she told officers that her boyfriend punched her at their home on Center Ridge Road. The boyfriend was gone when officers arrived to arrest him, but they found him in the wood nearby the next afternoon. The man is in Westlake City …

Police Blotter: A 13-year-old Brings a Knife to Crocker Park, a Drug Theft and More

Westlake officers also responded to a domestic situation when a boy punched his mother's fiancee after he and his mother confiscated his stash of marijuana.

Crocker Park Security Guard Takes Knife from 13-year-old Crocker Park security guard took a knife from a 13-year-old Elyria boy at Crocker Park around 9:30 p.m. April 8. A 14-year-old boy told the security guard that the suspect had shown him a folding knife after they had argued. The guard detained the suspect until Westlake officers arrived. The boy has been banned from the shopping center and may face charges for carrying a concealed weapon and aggravated menacing.  Graffiti Artist Hits Bassett Building with Chief Wahoo A Bassett Road building owner found a Chief Wahoo, along with other graffiti, on his dumpster enclosure at about 5:30 a.m. April 10. Police Blotter: Officer Breaks Truck Window, Drags Suspect from Vehicle

Police arrested two men for threatening others at a bar and a hit-and-run drunk driver in this week's blotter.

Police Break Out Truck Window to Arrest Driver Police headed to the Ironwood Café at about 1 a.m. April 5 on a report that two men were threatening to fight other bar patrons. The men had been kicked out of the bar after one of them threw a drink at someone. When officers got to the bar, the men drove out of the parking lot. Police stopped their car on Second Street for traffic violations Police arrested the passenger, a 39-year-old Columbus man, for disorderly conduct, The 41-year-old Westlake man in the driver’s seat refused to get out of the truck and locked the doors. The arresting officer broke out the truck’s window and unlocked the doors. Police pulled the driver out and arrested him. He faces charges of operating a vehicle …

Man Was Carjacked in Westlake, Fought Back and Escaped

The suspect, John Julius, 54, of Westlake, is in police custody and faces charges.

A North Olmsted man was driving to work through Westlake Friday morning when a stranger jumped into his car and forced him to drive. According to Cpt. Guy Turner, the man, whom police have identified as 54-year-old Westlake resident John Julius, reportedly jumped in front of the man’s car at 5:16 a.m. on Detroit Road near Settlers Reserve Way. When the driver stopped, the man got into the passenger seat, hit the driver in the face repeatedly and then forced him to drive around. He told the driver that he was the Lord, and that people were after him. The North Olmsted man was able to throw the hijacker out of the car and called Westlake Police.
