Westlake vs. Rocky River, the Browns vs. Cincinnati, Avon's Lake Erie Crushers go the distance while the Tribe loses ground against Detroit.
1. The summer months have all but passed, and the temperatures are already beginning to slip. Today’s 70 degree high will be accompanied by wind, overcast skies and a 10 percent chance of precipitation. The first day of autumn is Saturday, Sept. 24, and as the weather cools, football and postseason baseball will just be heating up. 2. The Westlake High Demon football team will square off against the Rocky River Pirates this Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Westlake. After a lopsided loss to North Ridgeville in August, the Demons came back with a win against Bay Village last week. The rival Pirates (2-0) have looked solid so far this year, and will likely be a formidable opponent. 3. Avon’s Lake Erie Crushers defied the odds and have made their way…

Crowd of 500 greets speakers, singers.
The Tea Party Express may have planned a party, but the Sept. 3 stop in Avon proved to attract a less-than-stellar turnout for what was Ohio's only stop. Victoria Jackson didn’t show. The Republican presidential candidates didn’t show. The television cameras didn’t show, nor did the projected crowd of 5,000 arrive at All Pro Freight Stadium. That didn’t stop speakers on the bus tour from enthusiastically touting their message of lowered national debt, reduced government spending and opposition to taxes. Approximately 500 people, including volunteers, vendors and Tea Party Express people spent a few hours on Saturday at the rally, which began winding down by 6:30 p.m. Speakers and singers promoted the group’s values and conservative values …

Coast-to-coast national bus tour is coming to All Pro Freight Stadium Sept. 3 and one or two presidential candidates may make a surprise visit.
For its annual “Reclaiming America” bus tour, the Tea Party Express winds its way across the country, visiting towns big and small in early primary states to spread its conservative message among voters. The next stop: Avon’s All Pro Freight Stadium. Since Avon is the only Ohio stop for the Tea Party Express, the event is expected to attract 5,000 people, and will feature former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Victoria Jackson and singer Lloyd Marcus. Lt. Governor Mary Taylor will attend along with Treasurer Josh Mandel – who is also vying for a U.S. Senate seat in November – Avon Lake Councilwoman Jennifer Fenderbosch said. Fenderbosch, who will represent the Lorain County Republicans organization at the event, noted that one or two …

Joe, you probably don't realize it, but the term "teabagger" is an offensive sexual term, and you should avoid using it. I didn't see Nate or Tim there, but I was there. And there were far more than a few hundred people who showed up, who kept coming and going all day long. I'd estimate at least a thousand or more. I find it amazing that you can denigrate an event where there was the passing out …   more ›
