4th of July: What's Open, Closed and Going On

Everything you need to know about the holiday right here

Are you going to be busy today getting ready for the July 4th holiday? Here are some key things you need to know as the holiday approaches:

Prepping The Park for 4th of July

Celebrations will be at Clague Park

It's the day before the Fourth of July, and the city of Westlake is getting ready. City workers were out in force Monday at Clague Park, where much of the city's Independence Day festivities will be. The parade ends at Clague Park on Wednesday, where there will also be a classic car show, a patriotic ceremony and, in the evening, food, entertainment and fireworks. Workers were also seen setting up barriers between the park's ballfields and Hilliard Blvd. The fields also got a mowing. Fortunately, workers had riding mowers to cover the expansive space in this heat.

4th of July Festivities Kick Off at Crocker Park

American Liberty Fest had music, a hero, fireworks and a world record.

Not even the threat of severe weather could stop the eighth annual American Liberty Fest Sunday evening at Crocker Park. The evening's festivities started late after rain and thunderstorms came through, but it was worth the wait. Did you go to Liberty Fest? Share your photos here! One of the highlights of the evening was the appearance of Ashland veteran Josh Sommers, who was critically injured in 2010 by a roadside bomb while serving with the Army in Afghanistan. Sommers, 25, suffered a traumatic brain injury, serious hearing and vision loss, and paralysis on his left side. He returned home to Ashland exactly one year ago Sunday. Crocker Park management presented Sommers with an Aqua Creek wheelchair for him to use in water therapy to …
