Margot Shumway Finishes Sixth at 2012 Olympics

Westlake native Shumway and Sarah Trowbridge finish almost 15 seconds behind gold medal winners in women's double sculls final

Margot Shumway's 2012 Olympics ended Friday with no medal. The Westlake native and rowing teammate Sarah Trowbridge of Guilford, Conn., placed sixth in the finals of women's double sculls at Eton Dorney, outside London. According to the official 2012 London Olympics website, Shumway and Trowbridge finished in 7 minutes, 10.54 seconds. That's 14.72 seconds behind the winners of the gold medal, Anna Watkins and Katherine Grainger of Great Britain (6:55.82). Kim Crow and Brooke Pratley of Australia won the silver in 6:58.55. The Polish team of Magdalena Fularczyk and Julia Michalska took the bronze in 7:07.92. The medalists were followed by teams from China and New Zealand, then Shumway and Trowbridge. The Westlake native and teammate Sarah Trowbridge of Guilford, Conn., are in the finals of the 2012 Olympics women's double sculls on Friday at Eton Dorney, outside London. WKYC will be airing the finals as part of their daytime coverage, which begins at 10:30 a.m. According to NBC's Olympics website, you can also catch a re-broadcast from 3:45 to 4:25 p.m. on WKYC. Shumway Makes Rowing Finals at 2012 Olympics

Westlake native Margot Shumway and Sarah Trowbridge place second in repechage to qualify for women's double sculls finals

The second time was the charm for Margot Shumway. Shumway and teammate Sarah Trowbridge of Guilford, Conn., placed second in the repechage for the women's double sculls rowing Tuesday at the 2012 Olympics. That finish puts them in the finals. The race was very close. Shumway and Trowbridge finished the race in 7:10.37, just over a second ahead of the Czech Republic team of Lenka and Jitka Antosova in 7:11.68. That tiny bit of time made the difference between going to the finals, or not. Only the top two finishers advanced. Shumway and Trowbridge finished less than one second behind the winners, Min Wang and Weiwei Zhu of China, who finished in 7:09.65. The finals are Friday, August 3, at Eton Dorney. Margot Shumway Doesn't Make Finals at 2012 Olympics

Westlake rower will get second chance Tuesday in women's double sculls repechage

Margot Shumway and rowing partner Sarah Trowbridge failed to qualify for the finals in the women's double sculls Monday at the 2012 Olympics in London. Shumway and Trowbridge finished third in the second heat, with a time of 6:55.25, almost 7 seconds behind heat winners Kim Crow and Brooke Pratley of Australia, who finished in 6:48.80. The Polish team of Magdalena Fularczyk and Julia Michalska was second in 6:50.85. Both the Australian and the Polish teams made the finals. In the first heat, teams from Great Britain and New Zealand earned spots in the finals. But all is not lost. Shumway and Trowbridge can still make the finals in Tuesday's repechage. The six teams who did not qualify will race for spots in the finals. Only the top two …

Margot Shumway of Westlake begins competition in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London on Monday with the qualifying heats in women's double sculls. Shumway, 32, and her partner, 29-year-old Sarah Trowbridge of Guilford, Conn., are the only American team competing in the event. They will be competing in the second heat Monday against teams from Poland, Australia, Germany and Ukraine. Rowing, along with the canoe sprint events, is being held at Eton Dorney Rowing Centre, about 25 miles west of London. Repechages, where first-round losers get a second chance to advance, will be Tuesday, July 31. The finals for women's double sculls will be Friday, August 3. 2012 U.S. Olympic Uniforms Made in China — Congress is Outraged, Are You? (POLL)

The designer, Ralph Lauren, said he will make future uniforms in the United States.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the United States Olympic Committee should be "ashamed of themselves" for allowing the 2012 U.S. olympians' uniforms to be made in China, according to a CBS News story.  The designer, Ralph Lauren, recently announced the uniforms will be made state-side from now on — starting with the 2014 winter olympics — following an uproar from the government. Reid even went as far to say that the Opening Ceremony Parade Uniforms and collection of village wear apparel should be burned.  "If they have to wear nothing but a singlet saying USA on it painted by hand, that’s what they should do," Reid said, according to a People.com story. Margot Shumway Rows Way to 2012 Olympics

Westlake native competing in double sculls in London

How cool is this? Westlake has it's own Olympian! Rower Margot Shumway of Westlake qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in women's double sculls with teammate Sarah Trowbridge of Guilford, Conn. The Summer Olympics are in London from July 27 through August 12. Shumway, a Westlake High School and Ohio State University graduate, will compete in her event in the July 30 and 31 qualifying rounds. The medal round is August 3.
