About Westlake Ward 2 City Council Candidate Marie Novak and Her Wishes For Westlake

About Candidate Marie Novak, why her family chose Westlake and her "wishes" for the city.

I would like to thank Westlake Patch for providing profiles of the candidates for Ward 2 Westlake City Council.  As I have been speaking to residents, I have been asked about how long I have resided in Westlake and why my family chose this community. I am more than happy to provide this information.

I was raised in the Parma/Seven Hills area.  After graduating from Normandy High School, I continued my education locally majoring in Political Science at Baldwin Wallace College, eventually obtaining a Law Degree from Cleveland Marshall College of Law and a Masters in Law from Case Western Reserve School of Law.

I married my husband Stephen and began the practice of business and workers’ compensation law for a little over four years.   I then made the difficult decision to step away from the legal profession after years of education and dedication to go into nursing to have a better quality of life for my family.   Shortly after graduating from Cuyahoga Community College as a registered nurse and beginning my nursing career, we were blessed with our two sons Jude (4) and Joel (3).

Approximately two and a half years ago we moved away from our childhood neighborhoods in Parma to Westlake because of our children and the great community and the schools Westlake has to offer.  I am currently employed at St. John Medical Center as a registered nurse and nursing supervisor.  I have learned a lot about this community and met many wonderful people through my both my work experience and volunteerism with the Westlake Early Childhood PTA, Westlake Council of PTAs and most recently the Westlake Women’s Club.

I would like to continue giving back to the community that has embraced my family and made us feel at home.  When announcing my candidacy for Westlake City Council Ward 2 I stated I would like to become “a new voice for continued success” within the city.   As a wife and mother living and working in Westlake I feel I will provide a different perspective from current council members and the other candidates for the Ward 2 position.

My wishes for Westlake include: (1) maintaining a balanced approach between residential, commercial and industrial interests in Ward 2 and City of Westlake, (2) expanding programs and services that ensure a family friendly environment, (3) monitoring civic, commercial and residential property maintenance to increase property values, (4) ensuring high performing, cost effective city services, continuing a safe and secure environment for city residents, businesses and visitors, (5) fostering relationships with established businesses and work with entrepreneurial residents who wish to create new business within the City of Westlake, and (6) working collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure that everyone shares in Westlake’s future prosperity.

After listening to the residents of Ward 2 I feel these “wishes” are concurrent with the views of the majority of the community.  I welcome the opportunity to discuss any issues or questions you may have and am easy to reach:  www.votemarienovak.blogspot.com, www.facebook.com/votemarienovak, votemarienovak@gmail.com or Twitter @VoteMarieNovak
