Westlake Volunteers Host Second Annual Special Olympics

Participants went for the gold despite the heat on Saturday.

The Westlake Kiwanis clubs, including the Key Club, Builders Club, Aktion Club, joined the Westlake City Schools to host the second annual Special Olympics games at Westlake High School on Saturday.

About 70 participants competed in events like the long jump, softball throw and various other track events.

Organizers are hoping to nearly double participation for the 2012 event.

“We anticipate having 120 to 150 participants next year,” said event chair Russ Milan, who also co-chairs the Kiwanis Aktion Club.
