Westlake Special Olympians Have Their Day

Westlake High hosted third annual event

The third annual Westlake Special Olympics had near-perfect weather for another successful day.

The event was held at . Westlake Special Olympics are a joint effort of Westlake Kiwanis and Westlake City Schools.

Sixty-four athletes participated, along with 20 volunteers, said event chair Russ Milan. The ages of the athletes ranged from 10 to 64, and there were six wheelchair participants.

Originally, there were going to be close to 100 athletes participating, Milan said, but one group had a conflict in their schedule and couldn't make it.

"Everything was positive today," he said. "We had a lot of new faces, great weather, and everyone had a good time."

Next year, Milan said, he hopes to have well over 100 athletes, as he is talking with Camp Cheerful in Strongsville to participate.
