Mini-golf at Porter Public Is Sellout Success

Sophomore's Eagle Scout project is expected to raise $2,000-$3,000 for the Friends of Westlake Porter Public Library.

The first mini-golf night at was a sell-out success that’s expected to raise $2,000 to $3,000.

Organized by the library’s Friends group and James Augustyn, a sophomore at Westlake High School, the nine-hole course hosted more than 100 players Friday night.

Each hole had its own sponsor and team, such as the Hollywood hole, the aquarium hole and the birthday hole.

“The best part is that the Friends now own the course and they can rent it out,” said Westlake Porter Public Library Director Andrew Mangels.

Friends of the Library President Jennifer Cirincione said the group plans to rent the course out for $100 per 48 hours. She also said some holes will be open July 25 for the library's Ice Cream Social.

About 12 Friends volunteers helped out at Friday's event. Cirincione said the group is looking for members to help sort books, tend the reading garden, work the cashier at the gift shop and more.
