Hilliard Flower Boxes to Bloom Again

Planting begins Saturday

Hilliard Blvd. is about to get its annual spring makeover.

Saturday is planting day for the 220 flower boxes in the median of Hilliard Blvd. Volunteers will be out from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the planting, said Gayle Hill of Westlake's service department.

Be careful driving along Hilliard during the planting time, Hill said. The eastbound lane bordering the median will be closed, Westlake service department trucks will be parked there, and auxiliary police will be patrolling.

Planting will also be done along the fences at . While organizations and businesses can sponsor a box on Hilliard, the ones at the cemetery are sponsored only by families or in memory of someone, Hill said.

The city provides the boxes and maintenance. Volunteers who sponsor a planting box provide the plants and mulch, Hill said. There's always a waiting list, she added.
