Get Out: Band Spectacular, Charity Race, Ventriloquist And More

This week's events include a patriotic band performance, a 5K run/walk and 1 mile to support cancer research, a children's ventriloquist show, a Fourth of July dinner cruise on the Nautica Queen and the Farmers' Market.

This week there are activities for band lovers and athletes alike.  There’s even an opportunity for a romantic evening, not to mention a ventriloquist show for the kids.  Maybe you want to stop by Crocker and pick up some fresh produce.  Browse through the events this week other than the July Fourth festivities at Clague Park and Crocker Park.

FOURTH ANNUAL PATRIOTIC BAND SPECTACULAR

Where/When: Performing Arts Center/ Thursday 7 p.m.

Why go: Support Westlake High School and the United States at the same time this Thursday! The Westlake High School Band and Jazz Band will be putting on a special performance of patriotic songs that will recognize veterans. Alumni of these bands and experienced community members will also be featured in the show. Tickets are $5. You’re bound to be impressed by Westlake’s young musical talent!

4TH ANNUAL BIRTHDAY BASH & DASH 5K & 1 MILE

Where/When: , Avon Lake/ Monday 9 a.m. (online registration closes Thursday at 11:59 p.m., but you can register the day of the race in person.)

Why go: Come support a great cause while being active too!  This event is the largest fundraiser for Smiles for Sophie Forever, a foundation that was created in memory of Sophie Quayle, a four-year-old diagnosed with brain cancer who passed away in 2007.  The foundation raises awareness of pediatric brain cancer, funds research for its cure, supports St. Jude Hospital, where Sophie was treated, and helps families affected by this cancer.  This year’s Fourth of July 5K run/walk and one mile will have been Sophie’s eighth birthday. Registration is $25. What a good motivation to exercise!

Where/When: / Thursday 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Why go: Tired of taking the your kids to the movies or the pool every day?  Your kids will love this exciting ventriloquist show.  Mark Wade is officially recognized at America’s number one children’s ventriloquist: his name was even an answer on Jeopardy!  Tickets are required, but are free at the Youth Services desk.  Who knows, maybe your kids will pick up a few good reads there too!

NORTH UNION FARMERS MARKET

Where/When: Crocker Park, Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why go: If you’ve been eager for some fresh fruit and vegetables, shop around this Saturday in across from .  Local farmers will be selling fresh produce!  They will also educate you on why buying locally is so important. If you’ve been meaning to shop or run an errand, plan it around the Farmers Market, you won’t be disappointed!

NAUTICA QUEEN CRUISE DINING SHIP

Where/When: The Flats, Cleveland/ Monday

Why go: Are you way overdue for a romantic night out? Nautica Queen is the perfect place to take your wife or girlfriend. Send your kids out with their friends and enjoy a fancy dinner cruise and fireworks on the lake.  You will both love this special date. Tickets are $75 per person, plus tax and gratuity.
