Bicentennial Founders' Walk to Break Ground This Fall

Bricks are still available for dedication before ground breaks.

The will be breaking ground soon but there’s still time to become part of the landmark.

According to Westlake Kiwanis Club President Rick Grane, organizers are hoping to break ground in mid-October. Construction should take two to three weeks.

“We’re thinking of outsourcing some of the work to get it done faster,” Grane said.

The brick pavers are salvaged from the old Red Brick schoolhouse that was razed late last year. The bricks will be engraved with dedications and incorporated, along with stones dedicated to Westlake's founding families, into the pathway.

Grane said the groups have sold about 260 bricks so far and they’re hoping to have between 300 and 350 bricks dedicated for the walk.

Each brick is $60 and can be engraved with up to three lines of text with a maximum of 13 spaces per line, and can commemorate any person, group, family or organization as long as the message fits on the brick, Grane said.

The city will install the 100-foot-long walkway at , just across the street from the Clague House Museum.

The Kiwanis Club and the Westlake Historical Society will have bricks available for the next few weeks. Now that school is back in session, the groups are sending forms home with students and hoping to get clubs involved.
