Bowling

The Westlake Bowling team competes in the Greater Cleveland Interscholastic Bowling League (GCIBL, founded in 1940) with eleven other schools.  Matches are played on alternate Saturday mornings at Buckeye Lanes in N. Olmsted and Cloverleaf Lanes in Independence.  The format consist of five bowlers who bowl a 3-game series and 2 baker games (team format).

The Demons opened their first match at Cloverleaf Lanes on Saturday, November 17 against last year's GCIBL champion, the Brecksville Bees.  The Demons were not able to match the Bee's in total pins, but did win two out of three games in handicap scoring.  The anchor position was held down by senior Jacob Ogonek, who posted an opening game of 180 and three game series total of 496 pins (165 average).  Returning senior Katie Linger had a high game of 177 and second-year bowler John Alfes had a high game of 173.  Making their debut and marking with five spares each in their first game were junior Peter Eyre and freshman Conrad Alfes.  We then faced a tough St. Ignatius squad and Jacob Ogonek bowled a 242 to lead all individual game scores.  Trevor Watling showed consistency with a high game of 141 in his bowling debut.  In the third match against Lutheran West, John Alfes found his strike bowl and scored a 3-game series of 523 for a 174 average.  We are in the middle of the pack at 11-10 in the Handicap Division standings and with an overall 0-3 record in OHSAA standings.
