Shumway Makes Rowing Finals at 2012 Olympics

Westlake native Margot Shumway and Sarah Trowbridge place second in repechage to qualify for women's double sculls finals

The second time was the charm for Margot Shumway.

and teammate Sarah Trowbridge of Guilford, Conn., placed second in the repechage for the women's double sculls rowing Tuesday at the 2012 Olympics. That finish puts them in the finals.

The race was very close. Shumway and finished the race in 7:10.37, just over a second ahead of the Czech Republic team of Lenka and Jitka Antosova in 7:11.68.

That tiny bit of time made the difference between going to the finals, or not. Only the top two finishers advanced.

Shumway and Trowbridge finished less than one second behind the winners, Min Wang and Weiwei Zhu of China, who finished in 7:09.65.

The finals are Friday, August 3, at Eton Dorney.
