Stuckart Places 12th in Junior Worlds

Westlake grad competed in Lima, Peru this past weekend.

Sheldon Stuckart, a member of Team USA Weightlifting, placed 12th in the Junior Worlds in his first time out, competing in the 85kg session. He represented the USA at the Junior Worlds in Lima, Peru last week, finishing with a 283 kg total.

According to the Team USA website, competing  in his first international competition, lifted in the Junior World Championships 85 kg B session May 8.

Stuckart, a 2011 Westlake High School graduate opened with a successful 125 kg snatch, missed 130 kg on his second attempt and then made the same weight on his third.

In the clean & jerk, Stuckart opened with a successful 153 kg, moved up to 158 kg on his second, but was turned down due to press out, then missed his third with 160kg, cleaning the weight but failing to complete the jerk.

Stuckart finished with 283 kg in total on the day, in a three-for-six performance. His placement in the 85 kg category awaited the conclusion of the 85 kg A session later in the day.

Overall, Team USA men totaled 303 points to finish ninth overall. Team USA women totaled 342 points, securing the women's team trophy for fifth place. Team USA

In February, the won the 85 kg class at the USA Weightlifting Junior National Championships in San Francisco.

The 20-year-old trains at Lindenwood University in St. Charles Missouri, where he is also the Student Assistant Olympic Weightlifting Coach. He competes in Mens Olympic Weighlifting under Student Life Sports, varsity non-NCAA sports which quality for scholarships.

He has racked up an impressive list of wins and is setting his sites on the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

His coach, Jianping Ma, is the Head Olympic Weightlifting Coach at Lindenwood University. In February he stated that Stuckart was Olympic material.

“He has a lot of potential,” Ma said in February. “From my experience, in 35 years of coaching, I’m even hopeful for the Olympics (for him).”
