LA Lakers Reach Agreement With Westlake's Mike Brown

After a year of coaching his two sons in football and basketball, Brown is set to sign as head coach for the LA Lakers.

After spending the last year coaching his sons, Westlake resident and ex-Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown is making headlines again. According to a statement issued by the L.A. Lakers, the team plans to hire Brown as head coach "within the next few days."

“In response to rampant speculation and reports about our head coaching position and Mike Brown, we’ve met with Mike and are very impressed with him," said the statement. "In addition, we have an outline for an agreement in place and hope to sign a contract within the next few days.”

Almost exactly one year ago, Brown was fired from his head coach position with the Cavs for failing to win an NBA title, according to ESPN.

"The past 5 years have been an exceptional experience," Brown said in a written statement in May of last year. "I have been very fortunate to lead a group of men who I respect and thoroughly enjoyed coaching on a daily basis."

At the time, The Plain Dealer reported that Brown was the most successful coach the Cavs have ever had. After he left the court, he spent a lot of time focusing on his sons and their sports. Over the winter, , who plays on the  basketball team. Last fall, he was a volunteer assistant for members of the football team, including his son Cameron, according to The Plain Dealer.

Sports fanatics are already speculating on what Brown will bring to the Lakers team. John Krolik with the New York Times has concerns about Brown's abilities to handle offense.
