Demons Sports Report: Three Football Players Chosen for All-Star Game, Tennis Team is Champion

Here are the highlights from high school sports this week!

Three football players: Jacob Kutz, Elias Chbeir and Justin Smith, have been chosen to play in the 39th annual Cuyahoga County East vs. West All-Star Game on June 17 at Tressel Field at Baldwin-Wallace College

TENNIS

The Westlake High School boys tennis team is the Southwestern Conference champions, winning all five matches to defeat number two ranked Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy in state Division II.

Colton Buffington won at singles, J.T. Rapaort and Kevin Wang won first at doubles, and the team of Stephen Fleischer and Kent Dinchman took second place at doubles.

The junior varsity team took third place at the Southwestern Conference Junior Varsity Tournament. Krish Shah took first place at singles, Pranay Arora took fifth and Aakash Shah took sixth. In pairs, Rahil Desai and Cyrus Kharche, and Brian Anstead and Anthony Raiff took third place.

BASEBALL

The Westlake High School boys' baseball team lost to Midpark. The Demons led 4-3 heading to the fifth inning, but lost 4-9 in the end. Senior Mike Adamczyk and junior Jonathan Brick each had a pair of hits. Center fielder sophomore Danny Strodtbeck hit his firts homerun of the season.

The game against North Olmsted was rained out after five innings. Junior Kevin Neumann hit his third homerun of the season and senior Stephen James got back into the game for the first time since his ACL surgery. He had a pair of hits and two RBIs.

SOFTBALL

The Westlake High School girls softball team won four matches last week. They beat 10-7 May 4, won against Midpark 15-14 May 5, and two matches against Brookside 14-3 and 13-0 on May 7. Mackenzie Gambetta pitched a four-hit shutout with six strikeouts in the last match.

TRACK AND FIELD

They boys track and field team beat 70-67. Elias Chbeir took first place at shot put, while Jack St. Marie, Josh Buzzard, Rory Kelly and Paul Appel won the four-man 800-meter relay. Rudy Keppler won the 200-meter, Jack St. Marie won the 3200-meter relay and Rory Kelly won the 400-meter. Chris Screen won the high jump, Alex Schultz won the long jump and Alex Schultz won the pole vault.

Westlake also won first in the 4x1600-meter relay, the 4 x 200 meter relay, the pole vault relay, high jump relay and distance medley relay.

The girls track and field team beat Avon Lake 71.5 to 65.5. Sabrina Rizea was named the outstanding girls athlete for the meet and the team of Kalpana Beach, Katie Carroll and Charlotte Tate, set a meet high jump record of 15 feet, 4 inches.

Nora Lee, Liz Kobe and Charlotte and Madison Dunlap won the distance medly, Sabrina, Rizea, Kelly Essi, Allie Chonko and Heather Smith won first in the shuttle hurdle.

Westlake also won first in the sprint medly, 4x400 meter relay and the 4x1,600 meter relay.

LACROSSE

The Westlake High School varsity lacrosse team lost to Hudson 23 to 5. The junior varsity team lost 6-5 to Strongsville and 13-4 to Hudson
