Winter Weather May Have Westlake Students Making Up School

Snow is still falling, closing the library and canceling activities.

Westlake students may have to make up today's snow day at the end of the year. Schools spokesperson Kim Bonvissuto said that the district used its fourth calamity day today.

The state of Ohio reduced the number of calamity days from five to three this year, meaning students may have to add today's snow day, and any additional emergency days, to the end of the year.

But legislation in the state house, if passed, could change the number of calamity days back to five. A state senator is also backing a bill that would allow students to make up the time with a longer school day, rather than a longer school year.
