Whiz Kid: Barbara Bobal

Westlake kids do amazing things every day, and each week at Westlake Patch, we're going to be featuring child, teenager, club or team that really shines.

Whiz Kid: Barbara Bobal

School: Westlake High School, freshman

Barbara has been a volunteer for two years; helping out with various community causes during the school year and even during summer break. She participates in Key Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), the golf and track teams and is an aid in the Good Shephard program at , where she is also an altar server. In addition, Barbara consistently makes the honor roll for her excellent grades.

"I have also earned many medals in Irish dance competitions," she said.

Bobal says she constantly checks her grades online to make sure she's on top of things.

"I study everyday," she said.

Keys to Awesomeness:

Barbara said she goes out of her way to help others on an ongoing basis.

"I try to be a friend to everyone I meet," she said. "I listen to problems."

Bobal's favorite subject in school is history.

"I love the study of the Civil War and the Underground Railroad," she said.

When she's not studying feverishly, Bobal said she likes to participate in a variety of activities, including softball, volleyball, knitting, sewing, Irish dancing and babysitting.

Barbara said her favorite singer is Taylor Swift.

"'Friday' is definitely my favorite song," she divulged.

To fuel up for late night cram sessions, Bobal likes to nosh on eats from her favorite restaurant-- Macaroni Grill. She prefers to wash all that pasta down with an icy-cold Shirley Temple.

"I also love hummus," she said.

As a piece of advice to struggling students, Bobal said they should evaluate their study habits and ask lots of questions to their teachers.

"Never be afraid to ask a question during class," she said. "Chances are, someone else has that question too."

She also said that time management is key.

"Treat the school day as a work day. Get as much done as you can while you're there so you can have fun and do other activities after school."

The Million Dollar Question:

If Barbara were give a million dollars to give to a charity or special cause of her choice, she said she'd give it to the program to which she belongs.

"Youth Challenge is a non-profit organization that helps children with disabilities do recreational activities. It is a great organization and love being a part of it!" she said.
