Westlake TechMates Win State Championship

Westlake High School students won Best of Show in four categories at state-wide conference.

Engineering and Technology Education Department students blew the competition out of the water at the Ohio Technology & Engineering Educators Association state conference school exhibits competition last weekend.

Westlake TechMates won the title of state champion for their Best of Show awards in four different technology categories, and added two runner-up awards.

  • The team of Jacob Hoffman, Jacob Lemanowicz and Kalin Ngo for their “Great Green Living: Deep Woods Vacation Cabin” and energy efficient model design in the Construction/Architecture Technology category. For only the third time in school history, they captured the coveted Zupancic Award, selected as the single most outstanding project in the entire state of Ohio among all “Best of Show” winners.
  • Senior Bill Abersold in the Computer Generated Technology category for his new cordless drill design.
  • Senior Kalin Ngo in the Bio-Related Technology category for her ergonomically designed rocking chair.
  • Junior Matt Hall in the Materials & Processing Technology category for his Greeter’s Office design.

Runner-Up Best of Show Winners:

  • Junior Jacob Hoffman in the Construction/Architecture Technology category for his new high school design.
  • Junior Jacob Lemanowicz in the Engineering Technology category for his confetti and t-shirt launcher.

  • Nicole Klidas won first place in a division category for her weed trimmer propane conversion project in the Energy/Power/Transportation Technology category.
  • Scott Michaud, Scott Hulver and Ali Sandhu won the Award of Merit in the Construction/Architecture Technology category. 
  • Adam Purdy and Scott Kutz received the “Program Excellence” award, selected as the top Engineering & Technology Program in the state of Ohio.
