Westlake Students' Art To Travel To New York City

High school and middle school students won awards at the 33rd Cuyahoga County Region Scholastic Art & Writing Competition and Exhibition.

Westlake students' masterpieces are heading to New York City this spring after a great showing at the 33rd Cuyahoga County Region Scholastic Art & Writing Competition and Exhibition.

Twelve and four art students earned a total of 21 awards in the competition for seventh through 12th grade students. Those who won Gold Key and Portfolio awards will continue on to the national competition in New York for cash prizes, medals and scholarships.

This year the Cuyahoga County competition received 1,737 individual art pieces and awarded 65 Gold key Awards, 112 Silver Key Awards and 211 Honorable Mentions.

Award-winning works of art will be on view at the Cleveland Institute of Art’s Reinberger Galleries through Feb. 4, courtesy of the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. The show is open Sundays 1 to 5 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday’s 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
