Westlake Schools Avoid Pay to Play Sports

School administrators are selling advertising to help fund extracurriculars.

Despite s, Westlake students will not have to worry about pay-to-play sports in the coming year.

To absorb the lost revenue, Westlake City Schools have , eliminated about 20 supplemental positions and instituted tuition-based all-day kindergarten. Administrators have also found another source of revenue to help bolster the sports budget.

"We have been more steadily getting adversting and putting those funds toward athletic extracurriculars," Keenan said.

Keenan said school administrators considered pay-to-play this year and will revisit the idea if they need to in the future.

"We're working on alternative options to keep costs contained and keep resources where we want them to go: toward the kids," he said. "If we have to find another funding source, it’s something we’ll consider."
