U.S. News & World Report releases annual rankings

was ranked 26th in Ohio and 699th in the nation in the U.S. News & World Report annual Best High Schools listings. The school also earned a silver medal.

"It's always nice to have our schools recognized for the things we do well," said superintendent Dan Keenan.

According to the proficiency test ratings, Westlake High scored 94 percent in reading proficiency and 93 percent in math proficiency.

Westlake also scored 38.8 in the college readiness index, well ahead of the statistical median of 16.3. Forty-four percent of students take Advanced Placement courses and/or exams. The student-teacher ratio is 16:1.

While national recognition is nice, Keenan said, it's not the most important measurement for the district.

"We gave a well-defined continuous improvement plan, which is how the community wants us to be measured," he said. "Things like (the U.S. News & World Report rankings) are a complement to that and give us another perspective."
