Westlake High Has Five National Merit Finalists

Students will compete for National Merit Scholarships.

Five students have advanced to National Merit Finalist status in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship program.

Thomas Carroll, Jennifer Chern, Kyle Lathem, Caitlin Smith and Kelley Zhou are among the 15,000 students who will now compete for about 8,300 National Merit Scholarships.

To advance to National Merit Finalist, students must possess an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier qualifying performance.

More than 1.5 million high school juniors from 22,000 high schools nationwide entered the 2011-2012 National merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. This year’s Merit Scholarships winners will be announced between April and July.
